Bigg Boss 13 Day 87 highlights: Sidharth, Vishal, Asim become excessively violent during Luxury Budget task

The Thursday episode of Bigg Boss 13 began on a contemplative note, when Rashami and Asim were heard discussing his behaviour towards her during the initial days.

As per reports, Asim told Rashami Sidharth Shukla used to always criticise Rashami. As a result, Asim distanced himself from her in the first leg of the show. He added the main issue cropped up between Asim and Sidharth mainly because Asim had said he would want to experience Rashami's company himself instead of making judgement based on someone else's statements. Rashami reiterated saying Sidharth was a 'darpok' (coward).

In the other part of the house, Shehnaz was talking to Shefali Bagga and Vishal. She explained to them she has a problem with Paras and Mahitra, as the two used to always taunt her. and add the 'jealous' tag to her name. Vishal highlighted the fact Sidharth prioritises Mahira over Shehnaz, and as a result, treating Shehnaz poorly. When the discussion became even deeper, Shehnaz broke down, and was consoled by Vishal and Shefali.

When Shehnaz and Sidharth later spoke about it, the latter told her he would distance himself from her if she continues to get influenced by what people around her are saying, since it has begun affecting their friendship.

Later next day, Bigg Boss announced the Luxury Budget task, which also gave the winning team a chance to contend for captaincy in the house. The housemates were divided into two teams: Team A comprised Sidharth, Paras, Shehnaaz, Aarti, and Shefali Jariwala while Team B consisted of Vishal, Asim, Rashami, Mahira, and Shefali Bagga. Madhurima was made the moderator.

As the task began, Asim and Sidharth got involved in another fight. Gradually, things took a violent turn when Shehnaz got hurt after Sidharth and Asim tried to collect the items during the task. Bigg Boss thus had to intervene, and stop the task to warn contestants not to repeat this behaviour.

First poster from Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan unveiled; lyricist Vairamuthu's name absent from list of crew members

The makers of Mani Ratnam's highly anticipated next, Ponniyin Selvan, have unveiled the first poster of the movie. The poster shows a sword with a golden hilt, which bears the Chola dynasty's tiger emblem at the crest. The poster features the words, 'Beginning of the golden era' on the top. The shooting for the film is currently underway.

In the poster, the names of all the crew members are listed, except for the credits of the lyricist. Vairamuthu, who was supposed to pen the lyrics for the movie, but is reportedly no longer a part of the project. As per earlier reports, the Tamil lyricist was dropped from the film owing to the allegations of sexual harassment against him.

 

When an official announcement about the Ponniyin Selvan cast and crew was made by the makers on 13 December, Vairamuthu's name was absent from the list. The makers are yet to officially confirm the lyricist has exited the film.

The artists listed on the poster are AR Rahman for music, Ravi Varman for cinematography, Sreekar Prasad for editing, Thotta Tharani for production design, writer Jeyamohan for dialogues, Eka Lakhani for costumes, and Vikram Gaikwad for makeup. Brinda has taken charge of the choreography of the historical drama, and Sham Kaushal has been roped in as the action director.

Ponniyin Selvan has been adapted for the screen by Elango Kumaravel and Ratnam with dialogues by Jayamohan. Based on the epic novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy, the film will narrate the tale of the early days of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I.

The cast reportedly includes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Trisha, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Lal, Sarath Kumar, Jayaram, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, Kishore, and Aishwarya Lekshmi.

Bhangra Paa Le movie review: Sunny Kaushal is yet to hit his stride, thanks to a contrived screenplay and feeble script

In a dusty battlefield during the ongoing World War II, a soldier pulls up a dhol (drums), and starts beating out a tune. His song emboldens the deflated company to charge into battle. Sunny Kaushal plays the soldier. The next scene cuts to a modern day college in Amritsar, where girls are auditioning for a spot in a Bhangra troupe. The lead dancer of this college troupe is also Sunny Kaushal.

Dheeraj Rattan’s story-screenplay intercuts two stories of two dancers – Captaan from the 1940s and Jaggi Singh from 2019. Jaggi is a Part time DJ, and full-time interested in qualifying for a Bhangra competition in London. Because doing that will somehow celebrate his dear departed grandfather’s (Captaan) legacy.

He thinks he has found the perfect female counterpart when he spots Simi dancing up a storm at a wedding. The bubbling romance turns toxic when Jaggi realises Simi is a member of the rival college’s troupe, with equal ambition. She too wants a spot on the Bhangra Battle in London in order to put some personal ghost to rest. Simple conflict set up. 

We now have another hour to endure numerous songs, repetitive choreographed dance routines, and a great deal of exposition before we get to the end of this 130-minute tedium.

The film gets a much-needed boost of energy when the action shifts to Jaggi’s hometown, where he cobbles together an earthy set of dancers, called Pendu Club. The Bhangra Battle in London is the setting for the final showdown.

Director Sneha Taurani switches between the sepia-toned past — enlivened by Shriya Pilgaonkar as Captaan’s love Nimmo waiting for his return to Malwa village, Punjab, and a vibrant present, during which Jaggi must overcome father issues, complete a rite of passage, and learn an important life lesson. 

Rukshar Dhillon makes up for her stiff dance moves with a sweet act as the self-assured Simi. Sunny, more effective as Jaggi than Captaan, dances his heart out in the numerous set pieces but even after his feature third film, it seems like he is yet to hit his stride. 

A musical needs catchy numbers but out of the 10 songs, the only memorable ones are remixes (‘Bhangra Paale’ from Karan Arjun and ‘Ho Ja Rangeela Re’ from Rangeela). In spite of best efforts by the actors, a feeble script, by-the-numbers direction, unimaginative choreography, and contrived drama are unable to burn up the dance floor.
