चीन की स्मार्टफोन निर्माता कंपनियां Xiaomi, Oppo से एक हजार करोड़ का जुर्माना भारत सरकार की ओर से लगाया जा सकता है। 21 दिसंबर 2021 को इनकम टैक्स डिर्पाटमेंट की ओर से इन दोनों कंपनियों व इन दोनों कंपनियों से जुड़े लोगों पर रेड डाली गई थी। आयकर अधिनियम के तहत लेनदेन को लेकर नियमों का उलघंन पाया गया था। जिसे लेकर संभावना है कि डिर्पाटमेंट की ओर से कंपनियों पर जुर्माना लगाया जा सकता है।
अगले हफ्ते आईटी के इस सर्च में 1400 करोड़ रुपये से अधिक के टैक्सेबल प्रॉफिट की कमी पाया गया है। इसमें कहा गया है कि कंपनियों द्वारा आयकर अधिनियम के तहत नियमों का अनुपालन किया गया है। जिसके तहत आयकर अधिनियम के तहत इनपर दंडात्मक कार्रवाई की जा सकती है। इस दौरान 1961 के तहत कंपनियों पर 1000 करोड़ रुपए का जुर्माना लगाया जा सकता है या फिर इससे अधिक भी जुर्माना हो सकता है। हालांकि बयान में दोनों फर्मों का नाम नहीं है, सूत्रों ने एनडीटीवी को Xiaomi और Oppo के परिसरों की तलाशी के बारे में पुष्टि की है।
इनकम टैक्स डिर्पाटमेंट ने बताया कि भारतीय कंपनी के बुक्स में विदेशी फंड पेश किए गए हैं लेकिन यह स्रोत जिससे इस तरह के फंड प्राप्त किए गए हैं, वे संदिग्ध प्रकृति के हैं। जांच एजेंसी ने कहा कि कथित तौर पर ऋणदाता भी कोई खास नहीं है, केवल उधार की मात्रा लगभग 5,000 करोड़ है, जिस पर ब्याज व्यय का भी दावा है। एजेंसी ने कंपनी का नाम लिए बगैर कहा कि एक भारतीय फर्म की सेवाओं का इस्तेमाल किया, लेकिन टीडीएस (स्रोत पर कर कटौती) उल्लंघन पर 300 करोड़ रुपये का भुगतान करने के लिए सकता है।
बता दें कि अगस्त में चीनी सरकार द्वारा नियंत्रित दूरसंचार विक्रेता ZTE की सर्च की गई थी। जेडटीई के कॉर्पोरेट कार्यालय और विदेशी निदेशक के आवास सहित पांच परिसरों पर तलाशी ली गई। इसी तरह से Xiaomi, Oppo के फर्मों पर भी तलाशी की गई है।

वहीं मुकेश अंबानी और नीता अंबानी के छोटे बेटे अनंत अंबानी भी रिलायंस समूह की कई कंपनियों में अहम जिम्मेदारी निभाते हैं। 26 वर्षीय अनंत अंबानी भी अपने भाई की तरह ब्राउन यूनिवर्सिटी के छात्र रहे हैं। पिछले साल फरवरी में उन्हें रिलायंस की आयल टू केमिकल बिजनेस का निदेशक बनाया गया था जिन्हें रिफाइनिंग और पेट्रोकेमिकल व्यवसाय को देखना था। लेकिन आयल टू केमिकल बिजनेस योजना आगे नहीं बढ़ पाई। बाद में अनंत को सौर कंपनियों के बोर्ड में नियुक्त किया गया जो रिलायंस की ग्रीन ऊर्जा बिजनेस के लिए जिम्मेदार है। कंपनी अगले तीन वर्षों में ग्रीन एनर्जी में 10 अरब डॉलर का निवेश कर रही है।
भारत में पिछले कुछ दिनों में ओमिक्रॉन के मामले में इजाफा हुआ है। 24 घंटे पहले की ही बात करें तो 16,764 नए मामलों के साथ कुल सक्रिय केस 91,361 हुए हैं। द इंडियन एक्सप्रेस को जानकारी में एम्स के प्रमुख रणदीप गुलेरिया ने जानकारी दी है कि ओमिक्रॉन कैसे और किस लोगों के किस अंक पर अटैक करता है और इसके लक्षण क्या है साथ ही यह भी जानकारी दी है कि अगर ओमिक्रॉन वायरस अटैक करे तो कैसे इससे बचाव किया जा सकता है।
शरीर के किस हिस्से में करता है अटैक ओमिक्रॉन देश में तेजी से लोगों के बीच फैल रहा है। इसलिए यह जानना भी जरुरी है कि ओमिक्रॉन आखिर शरीर के किस हिस्से को प्रभावित कर रहा है। AIIMS चीफ गुलेरिया ने बताया कि अत्यधिक संक्रामक ओमिक्रॉन संस्करण मुख्य रूप से शरीर के ऊपरी श्वसन पथ और वायुमार्ग को प्रभावित करता है। यह फेफड़ों को प्रभावित नहीं करता है। जिस कारण से यह एक से दूसरे तक श्वसन के माध्यम से तेजी से पहुंचता है।
क्या है लक्षण गुलेरिया ने जानकारी देते हुए कहा कि चूकि यह फेफड़ों के बजाय ऊपरी श्वसन और वायु नली को प्रभावित कर रहा है। इस कारण इसमें डेटा वेरियंट जैसे गंभीर समस्याएं नहीं आ रही हैं। इससे संक्रमित रोगियों में ऑक्सीजन की अधिक कमी नहीं हो रही है। इसके जो लक्षण सामने आए हैं वह बुखार, नाक बहना, गले में खराश और शरीर में बहुत दर्द और सिरदर्द होना है। उन्होंने कहा कि अगर किसी में यह लक्षण दिखाई दे रहे हैं तो उन्हें तुरंत जांच करवा लेना चाहिए।
अटैक करे तो क्या करें गुलेरिया ने कहा कि अगर आपको ओमिक्रॉन वायरस से संक्रमित होने की जानकारी मिलती है तो घबराने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। यह समझना महत्वपूर्ण है कि पिछली बार के विपरीत यह नया संस्करण ऑक्सीजन संतृप्ति में इतनी गिरावट का कारण नहीं बनता है। इसलिए जो नॉर्मल वायरस से संक्रमित हैं वे होम आइसोलेशन पर रह सकते हैं। गुलेरिया ने जोर देकर कहा कि अस्पताल के बिस्तर उन लोगों के लिए मुफ्त छोड़े जाने चाहिए जो गंभीर बीमारी की चपेट में हैं। कहा कि डेटा यह भी बताता है कि रिकवरी बहुत तेजी से हो रही है, इस कारण घबराहट की स्थिति में न आएं।
अभी रहें सतर्क गुलेरिया ने यह भी कहा कि देश नए साल की शुरुआत में काफी बेहतर स्थिति में है। क्योंकि टीकाकरण की दूसरी खुराक 60 प्रतिशत के पार पहुंच गई है। लेकिन इससे सतर्क होने की आवश्यता है, क्योंकि महामारी खत्म नहीं हुई है। हम नए मामलों में उछाल देख रहे हैं। इसलिए, यह और अधिक सतर्क रहने का समय है।
कोरोना वायरस के खिलाफ तैयारी गुलेरिया ने कहा कि सुविधाओं के मामले में भी बेहतर तरीके से तैयार हैं। चाहे वह मेडिकल ऑक्सीजन प्लांट हों, आईसीयू बेड हों, वेंटिलेटर हों। इसलिए तैयारी और प्रतिरक्षा प्रतिक्रिया के मामले में हम बेहतर स्थिति में हैं। गुलेरिया के अनुसार, नए संस्करण से लड़ने के लिए कोविड-उपयुक्त व्यवहार सबसे शक्तिशाली उपकरण होगा। इस कारण से जब भी बाहर जा रहे हों तो मास्क ठीक से पहनना, शारीरिक दूरी बनाए रखना और हाथ धोना जारी रखें। भीड़ वाली जगहों पर जाने से बचें।
गंभीर बीमारियों से बचाता है टीका गुलेरिया ने कहा कि जो डेटा हमारे पास है व बताता है कि टीकाकरण गंभीर बीमारी और मृत्यु दर से रक्षा कर रहा है। इसलिए उन लोगों के लिए जो टीका हिचकिचाहट के कारण टीका नहीं लगाया गया है, टीका लगवाना बहुत जरूरी है। साथ ही उनमें से कुछ जो अपने दूसरे शॉट से चूक गए हैं, यह महसूस करते हुए कि महामारी खत्म हो गई है, उन्हें आगे आना चाहिए और दूसरी खुराक लेनी चाहिए। क्योंकि आप पूरी तरह से तभी सुरक्षित रहेंगे जब आप दोनों खुराक ले लेंगे।
हरियाणा के गुड़गांव में नमाज का विरोध करने वाले संगठनों ने शुक्रवार को महात्मा गांधी के खिलाफ अपशब्द बोलने वाले संत कालीचरण की रिहाई की मांग को लेकर प्रदर्शन किया। इस दौरान दक्षिणपंथी संगठनों के कार्यकर्ताओं ने “गोडसे ने देश बचाया” और “गोडसे अमर रहे” जैसे भड़काऊ नारे भी लगाए। लेकिन पुलिस चुपचाप देखती रही।
कालीचरण की गिरफ़्तारी के विरोध में निकाले गए विरोध मार्च का नेतृत्व संयुक्त हिंदू संघर्ष समिति के कानूनी सलाहकार कुलभूषण भारद्वाज ने किया। यह करीब 22 स्थानीय संगठनों का एक समूह है जो हर शुक्रवार को गुड़गांव में सार्वजनिक स्थानों पर होने वाले नमाज को लेकर विरोध प्रदर्शन करता है।
इस मार्च में पूर्व आरएसएस और भाजपा नेता नरेंद्र सिंह पहाड़ी भी शामिल थे जिन्होंने पिछले दिनों पटौदी में एक स्कूल में मनाए जा रहे क्रिसमस कार्यक्रम में व्यवधान उत्त्पन्न किया था। इसके अलावा संयुक्त हिंदू संघर्ष समिति-हरियाणा के प्रदेश अध्यक्ष महावीर भारद्वाज भी इसमें शामिल थे, जिन्होंने हरिद्वार में आयोजित ‘धर्म संसद’ में भाग लिया था, जहां कालीचरण सहित कई लोगों ने भड़काऊ भाषण दिए थे।
शुक्रवार को गुड़गांव में निकाले गए मार्च के दौरान “नाथूराम गोडसे अमर रहे” और “गोडसे ने देश बचाया” और हिंसा भड़काने वाले कई नारे लगाए। इस दौरान वहां भारी पुलिस बल भी मौजूद था लेकिन पुलिस सिर्फ मूकदर्शक बनी रही। विरोध प्रदर्शन करने वालों में बजरंग दल, हिंदू सेना और गौ रक्षक दल के सदस्य भी शामिल थे।
विरोध प्रदर्शन में शामिल रहे गुड़गांव जिला बार एसोसिएशन के पूर्व अध्यक्ष कुलभूषण भारद्वाज ने 2019 में जामिया मिलिया इस्लामिया के पास सीएए विरोधी प्रदर्शनकारियों पर गोली चलाने वाले 19 वर्षीय आरोपी का बचाव किया था। कुलभूषण भारद्वाज ने कहा कि उन्होंने डीसी कार्यालय में राष्ट्रपति के नाम एक ज्ञापन सौंपा है और कालीचरण की “तत्काल रिहाई” की मांग की है।
कुलभूषण भारद्वाज ने कहा कि हम गांधी के खिलाफ संत कालीचरण द्वारा की गई टिप्पणी का पुरजोर समर्थन करते हैं और हम निंदा करते हैं कि छत्तीसगढ़ सरकार ने उन्हें कैसे गिरफ्तार किया। जब धर्म के आधार पर देश का विभाजन हुआ तो गांधी ने इसका विरोध क्यों नहीं किया? देश के विभाजन को स्वीकार करने में उनकी भूमिका के लिए यह देश गांधी को कभी माफ नहीं करेगा। हिंदू समाज जाग गया है और हम अपने संतों का कोई अपमान स्वीकार नहीं करेंगे।
भारद्वाज को 2020 में पार्टी विरोधी गतिविधियों के लिए भाजपा से निलंबित कर दिया गया था और वे पिछले कुछ समय से गुड़गांव के सेक्टर 47 और सेक्टर 12 में खुली जगहों पर नमाज पढ़े जाने के खिलाफ हो रहे विरोध प्रदर्शन में शामिल रहे हैं। वे सेक्टर 12 ए में नमाज को बाधित करने के प्रयास को लेकर 29 अक्टूबर को गिरफ्तार भी किए गए थे। लेकिन बाद में जमानत पर रिहा कर दिया गया।
विरोध में शामिल रहे नरेंद्र पहाड़ी ने 2019 का हरियाणा विधानसभा चुनाव पटौदी से निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार के रूप में लड़ा था। नरेंद्र पहाड़ी ने शुक्रवार को हुए प्रदर्शन को लेकर कहा कि जब कोई हिंदू राष्ट्र और हिंदू हितों की बात करता है, तो तुरंत एफआईआर दर्ज हो जाती है और गिरफ्तारी होती है, जबकि अन्य लोगों को कुछ नहीं किया जाता है।
हरिद्वार में आयोजित कार्यक्रम में शामिल हुए महावीर भारद्वाज ने कहा कि कालीचरण की गिरफ्तारी हिंदू समाज को चुनौती देने का एक तरीका है। उन्होंने ऐसा कुछ नहीं कहा जो कानून के अनुसार दंडनीय हो। कुछ देशद्रोहियों द्वारा बनाए गए दबाव के चलते उन्हें गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया है। हिंदू समाज को ऐसी स्थिति में नहीं भड़काना चाहिए, जहां यह कानून-व्यवस्था का सवाल बन जाए।
प्रदर्शनकारियों ने एआईएमआईएम प्रमुख असदुद्दीन ओवैसी के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की मांग करते हुए कहा कि हम उन्हें गिरफ्तार करने वाले देश के किसी भी पुलिस अधिकारी को 22 लाख रुपये का इनाम देंगे। गुड़गांव में नमाज बाधित करने वालों में शामिल प्रवीण यादव ने कहा कि अधिकारियों ने ओवैसी के खिलाफ कोई कार्रवाई नहीं की है, वे अपने भाषणों में हिंदुओं को धमका रहे हैं और भड़का रहे हैं।
जम्मू के कटरा में माता वैष्णो देवी के मंदिर से दुखद ख़बर मिली है। रात में दर्शन के दौरान माता वैष्णो देवी के भवन में भगदड़ मच गई जिसमें 12 लोगों की मौत हो गई। वहीं कई लोग घायल भी हो गए। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने घटना को लेकर दुख जताया है और मृतकों के परिवारों को 2 लाख रुपये की राहत राशि देने की घोषणा की है। बताया जा रहा है कि नए साल के मौके पर माता के मंदिर में दर्शन के लिए बड़ी संख्या में श्रद्धालु पहुंचे थे। इसी बीच भगदड़ मच गई। घटना में कई लोग घायल हुए हैं जिन्हें अस्पातल में भर्ती कराया गया है।
वहीं जम्मू-कश्मीर के एलजी मनोज सिन्हा ने ऐलान किया है कि मारे गए लोगों के परिजनों को 10-10 लाख रुपये और घायलों को 2 लाख रुपये की अनुग्रह राशि देने की घोषणा की है।
गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने शोक जताते हुए कहा, ‘माता वैष्णो देवी मंदिर में हुई दुखद दुर्घटना से हृदय अत्यंत व्यथित है। इस संबंध में मैंने J&K के उपराज्यपाल श्री मनोज सिन्हा जी से बात की है। प्रशासन घायलों को उपचार पहुँचाने के लिए निरंतर कार्यरत है। इस हादसे में जान गँवाने वाले लोगों के परिजनों के प्रति संवेदना व्यक्त करता हूँ।’

With consecutive years that have globally tested human spirit and patience, Netflix has found a cheeky, cathartic way of summarising the year that has just been.Death to 2020 was a smart, often riotous way of unloading a grim year off the chest. Because 2021 proved equally challenging, if not more, Netflix has brought backDeath to 2021, a screaming, freewheeling conclusion to a dastardly year that, at least in the Indian context, was perhaps one of the hardest in recent history. Death to 2021 may not have the originality of its predecessor but some acutely clever writing and spiky jabs at politicians, cultural oddities, and events that occupied the majority of 2021, makes this one hour a perfect companion to float into a better year – hopefully.
Death to 2021 retains some of its original cast, and ropes in some new members. Diane Morgan continues her role as clueless British loner, Cristin Milioti is lovely as the charming anti-science republican, and Joe Keery is excellent as a wannabe modern influencer. But it is really the star act of the hour-long documentary, Hugh Grant, as a white, racist historian, that punches above everyone else. Because it is a US-centric production, we obviously start with the raid on Capitol Hill, where President Joe Biden’s swearing-in is referred to as a 'reverse exorcism.' From there we move towards the pandemic, where Samson Kayo plays Pyresk Flask a medical scientist whose explanations of the virus are hilariously accompanied by moody soundtracks.
The predictability of this comedy special cannot undermine some of the witty writing at play here. Grant’s typically, ignorant ‘boomer’ behaviour is almost a charm offensive that proves too hard to resist. Though Lucy Liu features in this new edition, it is really Stockard Channing as the columnist who writes ‘extensively and often drunkenly’ about a variety of issues who holds together the sanity of a palette overflowing with vividly stupid people.
Death to 2021 is not just smart in its colourful captioning of things, or imaginative descriptors, but also in its ability to take up the challenge of ridiculing the sacred. The British Royal family feels the full brunt of 2021, in some especially snarky inverse commentary on the Crown’s racist routes, the over-hyped Prince Harry and Meghan Markle interview, and even Prince Philip’s death, summarised here as his 'final withdrawal from public life.' Even his title is, rather simplistically, shredded with 'Duke of Deadinbrugh.'
The special is also brave in terms of going places where most would not. A commemorative reel of ‘people who were cancelled in 2021’ is a simultaneous pun at both cancel culture and the notion of celebrity. Some of the jokes in the special are obvious and also-rans, with phallic references to Jeff Bezos’ space odyssey chief among them. But heard in the rather cocky, British accent of Grant ironically cheering a white man’s penis envy feels oddly rewarding. "A self-made man proudly thrusting his penis into the heavens, free from shame, defying the gods themselves with this immense blazing phallus," Tennyson (played by Grant) says. “Do you think the ship would have been better if it had balls,” the interviewer asks. It is a trailer park joke, but intellectualised by a graceful actor like Grant, it never seems below the belt where it is actually situated.
Not all jokes in Death to 2021 of course land. Liu’s high-profile introduction to this particular instalment fades in comparison to Lisa Kudrow’s wonderfully kooky act in the original. It is also a format of comedy that requires a reader, and not just a listener, for it can alienate non-readers or people who cannot digest political insensitivity in the service of humour. It is also one of the inner jokes in the show as it uses political incorrectness.
Ignorant, snobbish, and clueless, Death to 2021, like its predecessor is held up by characters who are self-effacing caricatures but can also seem all too real, if viewed a little too intimately or seriously.
Almost everyone says or believes in the wrong thing, and are hilariously incompetent at the fundamentals in life. The fact, that this is more the world’s condition rather than a fad it is sieving through, is kind of the whole point.
Perhaps it is indicative of the age we live, the cruel few years we have had, that an olive branch can come out of nowhere. Even the narrative trivialisation of grief, suffering, chaos, and most significantly, human stupidity, for a condensed hour of self-gratifying, at times even crass, humour feels rewarding for the lid of concern it helps lift. To which effect, it perhaps does not even matter if the special qualifies as high art or not, as long as it makes moving past yet another horrid year that much easier. Of course, it cannot do all that on its own, but maybe putting a little joker hat and audacious make-up on the face of a morbid year can consign it to some sort of insignificance. In which case, Death to 2021 is another therapeutic newsreel with some biting and stinging commentary on another year we would like to forget. Kicking it in the groin is okay too.

उत्तर प्रदेश के कन्नौज में आयकर विभाग ने एक और इत्र कारोबारी पुष्पराज जैन उर्फ पम्पी जैन के ठिकानों पर छापेमारी की है। सुबह 7 बजे से आयकर विभाग की रेड जारी है। इसके अलावा एक और एक इत्र कारोबारी के यहां भी छापेमारी चल रही है।
प्राप्त जानकारी के अनुसार आयकर विभाग की टीम समाजवादी इत्र बनाने वाले सपा एमएलसी पुष्पराज के करीब 50 ठिकानों पर छापेमारी कर रही है। कहा यह भी जा रहा है कि उत्तरप्रदेश के अलावा कई राज्यों में भी पुष्पराज जैन के ठिकानों पर छापेमारी हो रही है। आयकर विभाग की टीम पुष्पराज जैन के अलावा इत्र कारोबारी मोहम्मद याकूब के यहां भी छापेमारी कर रही है।
सपा एमएलसी के यहां छापेमारी किए जाने से समाजवादी पार्टी भड़क गई है। समाजवादी पार्टी के मीडिया सेल ने ट्वीट करते हुए लिखा कि अखिलेश यादव के कन्नौज में प्रेसवार्ता की घोषणा करते ही भाजपा सरकार ने सपा एमएलसी पम्पी जैन के यहां छापामार कार्यवाही करनी शुरू कर दी। भाजपा का डर और बौखलाहट साफ है, जनता भाजपा को सबक सिखाने के लिए तैयार है! गौरतलब है कि आज अखिलेश यादव कन्नौज में एक प्रेस कांफ्रेंस करने वाले हैं। इसमें पुष्पराज जैन भी शामिल होने वाले थे।
इससे पहले कानपुर में इत्र कारोबारी पीयूष जैन के घर 23 दिसंबर को डायरेक्टरेट जनरल ऑफ जीएसटी इंटेलिजेंस और इनकम टैक्स ने छापा मारा। कानपुर में अकूत संपत्ति मिलने के बाद पीयूष जैन के कन्नौज स्थित घर पर भी छापेमारी हुई। कई दिनों तक चली कार्रवाई में कुल 194 करोड़ रुपए कैश और 23 किलो सोना, 600 लीटर चंदन का तेल मिला।

चंडीगढ़ नगर निगम चुनाव में आम आदमी पार्टी के हाथों शिकस्त का सामना करने वाली भाजपा के लिए अब कर्नाटक से बुरी खबर आई है। कर्नाटक में हुए शहरी निकाय चुनावों में भाजपा को जबरदस्त झटका लगा है और कांग्रेस सबसे बड़ी पार्टी बनकर उभरी है।
2023 के विधानसभा चुनावों से पहले कर्नाटक के 20 जिलों के 58 शहरी निकाय चुनावों में कांग्रेस ने भाजपा से बेहतर प्रदर्शन किया। कुल 1184 वार्डों में से 501 वार्ड में कांग्रेस ने जीत हासिल की और सबसे बड़ी पार्टी बनकर उभरी। वहीं भाजपा को 433 वार्डों और जनता दल (एस) को 45 वार्डों में जीत हासिल हुई। आप और जनता पार्टी ने भी एक- एक सीट जीती। जबकि एआईएमआईएम को दो और एसडीपीआई को छह सीटों पर जीत हासिल हुई।
27 दिसंबर को शहरी निकाय चुनाव के लिए वोट डाले गए थे। कांग्रेस ने 20 शहरी निकायों में बहुमत हासिल किया जबकि भाजपा ने 15 शहरी निकाय जीते। बाकी शहरी निकायों के नतीजे मिले जुले रहे और किसी भी पार्टी को बहुमत हासिल नहीं हुआ।
शहरी निकाय चुनाव में भाजपा के प्रदर्शन को लेकर कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री बसवराज बोम्मई ने कहा कि अगर पूरे चुनाव परिणाम को एक साथ देखें तो बीजेपी ने अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया। हालांकि उन्होंने चुनाव में मिली हार के लिए अल्पसंख्यकों की अधिक आबादी वाले क्षेत्रों को जिम्मेदार ठहराया।
मुख्यमंत्री बसवराज बोम्मई ने कहा कि हमने पिछली बार से बेहतर प्रदर्शन किया है, हालांकि हमें इस चुनाव में भी बेहतर प्रदर्शन करना चाहिए था। लेकिन यदि आप परिणाम देखें तो पता चलेगा कि जिन स्थानों पर अल्पसंख्यक समुदाय के मतदाता ज्यादा हैं, हमें वहां अच्छे परिणाम नहीं मिले हैं। लेकिन इस बार अपने प्रयासों के कारण गडग और अन्य जगहों पर सफलता मिली है।
मुख्यमंत्री के निर्वाचन क्षेत्र में भी भाजपा को हार का सामना करना पड़ा। अपने निर्वाचन क्षेत्र में ही पार्टी के प्रदर्शन को लेकर उन्होंने कहा कि हम बांकापुर में कभी नहीं जीते थे, वहां अल्पसंख्यक मतदाता 65 प्रतिशत हैं। इसलिए इस बारे में अधिक कहना मेरे लिए सही नहीं होगा। यही हाल गुट्टाल का है, लेकिन हम वहां भी अपना विकास कार्य जारी रखेंगे। वहीं निकाय चुनाव में कांग्रेस के प्रदर्शन को लेकर कर्नाटक कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष डी के शिवकुमार ने कहा कि हालिया चुनाव परिणामों ने राज्य में कांग्रेस की लहर का संकेत दिया है।
बता दें कि पिछले दिनों हुए चंडीगढ़ नगर निगम चुनाव में आप सबसे बड़ी पार्टी बनकर उभरी। चंडीगढ़ में सबसे ज्यादा वोट कांग्रेस (29.79%), दूसरे नंबर पर भाजपा (29.30%) और तीसरे नंबर पर आप (27.08%) को मिले। लेकिन कुल 35 सीटों में से आप को 14 सीटें मिली, भाजपा को 12 और कांग्रेस को 8 सीटें मिली। वहीं एक सीट शिरोमणि अकाली दल के खाते में भी गई।
Like most holiday/festival movies, Sing 2 is bright and cheerful. It’s family-friendly, and the anthropomorphic characters are cute. What it’s missing is the feeling of warmth that most holiday movies envelop you in.
The sequel of the 2016 movie Sing, this one gets the characters back together to perform a show in Redshore City (the animal version of some kind of Las Vegas and Los Angeles-mix). While the first version showed the creation of the group, this one is more about how they follow their dreams to become major successes in showbiz.
Mr. Buster Moon, the koala (voiced by Matthew McConaughey), is a theatre owner who has put together a group of actor-musicians who now want to play the big league. This group includes Rosita, a pig (Reese Witherspoon), who’s supposed to be the star of the show; Johnny (Taron Egerton), a gorilla; Ash (Scarlett Johansson), a porcupine; and an elephant called Meena (Tori Kelly). When a scout, Suki (Chelsea Peretti), rejects them, they somehow get themselves to Redshore City, where they convince music mogul Mr. Crystal (Bobby Cannavale) to let them do a show. They have the budgets and the production crew- and only one caveat. They have to get Cary Calloway (Bono), a grumpy lion and pop-star-recluse who has not been seen in the last 15 years, to be the star of the show they put up, called Out of the world. Well, not the only caveat, as they realise when they start working.
On paper, this sounds like a decent premise and a fun watch. And it is, in some parts. It’s cute. The animation and 3D effects are good, as you would expect from a renowned company like Illumination. The songs are great and don’t feel overused. The colours are fascinating- especially Calloway’s house and the final set and elements for the show they put up. It’s also interesting to see how the writers have shown the translation of a small local show to a commercial vehicle of success. The intricacies and ruthlessness of commercial production are hinted at, especially in contrast with a more innocent and small-scale way of creating art. The pressures faced by Moon, as he directs and leads his show to success in a place where he is out-of-depth, are relatable and often funny.
Unfortunately, neither the story nor the characters are strong enough to make this movie a compelling watch. There’s only so much you can do when you’re just going for cute, and that shows here. I feel that character motivations and actions need to be clearer- why does Suki go against Mr. Crystal? What exactly is the relationship Porsha has with her father that makes her so eager to rebel? Why are people acting snobbish and rude in Redshore City? All of this is vague. This is what makes the scene where Rosita faces her fears to save a friend so significant for me- it is an excellent example of how simply character psychology can be shown, but something the movie refuses to do for the most part. Since the story doesn’t make you feel for the characters or root for them, there is no relief or joy when they succeed. You don’t feel the warmness that comes with an underdog victory I felt it more when Johnny defeats his stubborn and arrogant dance teacher than when the band goes on to perform the show in larger and more popular venues victoriously.
I’m also a little frustrated by the ordinariness of the story- it’s nothing we’ve not seen before, except this one has anthropomorphic protagonists. When I came back home after watching the movie, my partner asked me, “How was it?” and I said, “There was no meaning”. He laughed- but I stick by my point. I felt that the movie didn’t explore any deeper themes and didn’t try to find an exciting way to tell the story. It wasn’t even entertaining enough to make you forget yourself and your surroundings for two hours just under the story, the characters, and the dialogues.
I understand that everyone wants something friendly to watch during the Christmas break, and this might be a good one-time watch if you’re ok with your movies being just cute. If not, though, there’s always something better to watch in the theatres or your laptops.
Sing 2 is running in theatres.

बिहार में नीतीश सरकार द्वारा शराबबंदी कानून को लेकर राजनीतिक माहौल गरमाया हुआ है। एक तरफ मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार शराबबंदी कानून को लेकर लोगों में जन जागरूकता लाने के लिए राज्य स्तर पर “समाज सुधार अभियान” यात्रा कर रहे हैं। तो वहीं दूसरी तरफ से उनके बयानों पर विपक्ष हमलावर है।
बता दें कि समाज सुधार अभियान के दौरान एक रैली में नीतीश कुमार ने कहा कि शराब पीने से 200 बीमारियां होती है। बीमारियों के नाम गिनवाते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि इससे कैंसर हेपेटाइटिस, टीबी और दिल की बीमारियों के साथ एड्स भी होता है। उनके इस बयान को बिहार विधानसभा के नेता प्रतिपक्ष तेजस्वी यादव ने हास्यास्पद बताया है।”
“नीतीश का बयान हास्यास्पद है”: गुरुवार को अपनी पत्नी राजश्री यादव (रेचल) के साथ क्रिसमस मनाकर पटना लौटे तेजस्वी यादव ने शराबबंदी नीति की आलोचना करते हुए कहा कि नीतीश कुमार पहले अपनी सरकार सुधार लेते तब आगे की बात करते। उन्होंने कहा कि जो ज्ञान मुख्यमंत्री जी ने दिया है, वो हास्यास्पद है। समझ सकते हैं कि वो किस तरह चारों तरफ से घिरे हुए हैं। इसी के चलते वो उल्टा पुल्टा बयान दे रहे हैं।
‘पहले सरकार को तो सुधार लेते’: तेजस्वी यादव ने कहा कि शराब को रोकने की जिम्मेदारी पुलिस महकमें की है। यह विभाग नीतीश कुमार के पास है। बिहार विधानसभा में शराब की बोतलें मिली है। वहीं सीएम के समाज सुधार अभियान पर उन्होंने कहा कि पहले सरकार को तो सुधार लेते।
तेजस्वी यादव के अलावा लोक जनशक्ति पार्टी ने भी नीतीश कुमार पर हमला बोला है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता राजेश भट्ट ने कहा कि जिस तरह से सीएम अब मीडिया पर हमला करने लगे हैं उससे लगता है कि उनका दिमागी संतुलन बिगड़ गया है।
..ऐसे लोगों को बिहार आने की जरूरत नहीं: वहीं शराब पर पाबंदी को लेकर नीतीश कुमार ने इससे पहले कहा था कि जिन लोगों को शराब ना मिलने के चलते बिहार आने में परेशानी होती है, उन्हें राज्य में आने की जरूरत नहीं है।
सीजेआई की टिप्पणी: बता दें कि बिहार में शराबबंदी को लेकर सुप्रीम कोर्ट के मुख्य न्यायाधीश CJI एनवी रमना भी टिप्पणी कर चुके हैं। उन्होंने इसे एक अदूरदर्शी फैसला बताया। उन्होंने कहा है कि इस कानून के चलते कोर्ट पर बोझ बढ़ा है। 26 दिसंबर रविवार को सीजेआई ने कहा था कि बिहार में शराबबंदी क़ानून के बाद स्थिति यह है कि पटना हाइकोर्ट में ज़मानत की याचिका एक-एक साल पर सुनवाई के लिए आती है।
In 2021 you had two releases. How do you look back on the year? Was it fulfilling in the way it was meant to be?
You know, 2021 for me was all about getting through the year somehow. It was just about survival. We were already hammered in 2020 by the sudden pandemic then 2021 was a bigger blow for all of us. I thought if I could just get through the year somehow, I’d be okay. All my energies were channelized into somehow getting through the year. So I had not set any benchmarks for myself this year.
Rashmi Rocket and Haseen Dilruba had their share of supporters and naysayers. Were you happy with the way both films were received?
I think every film of mine has had its share of supporters and naysayers. I can’t remember a single film of mine that has been liked or disliked by all. Isn’t that how it is for all films? There will be people who will celebrate its virtues and others who will focus on the flaws. Good or bad, is subjective. What matters is, did they speak about the film? I don’t take the opinion of the trained protestors seriously. The ones who have made it a habit to get offended politically or culturally or habitually. What matters to me is the real audience. I don’t ask people’s opinions on my film. I wait for them to tell me what they think. When I go out for a dinner, and people approach me aage see (on their own) to say whether they liked my film. That to me is the real audience response.
What was the most cherished response you got?
My first screening of Rashmi Rocket –where I played an athlete—was with the entire cast and crew, and a lot of real athletes. When I saw them clapping and cheering I felt I must have done something right and then girls who played supportive roles in scenes said they were touched by the film. That made me feel good. It made me feel the film had organically impressed the audience. For Haseen Dillruba I had a more adult audience telling me how crazy the film was and how unpredictable it was as a movie experience. These are all people who gave me their opinion without my asking. These are for me more valuable than the opinions of those who get pleasure from criticizing films, or maybe those who genuinely didn’t like the film. I don’t deny the existence of genuine naysayers. No film or for that anything you do in life will get a hundred percent acceptance. And the sooner you accept this the better.
Which of the two releases did you prefer? And if you had to change anything in the two films what would it be?
It is said that a mother can’t choose between her children. I can’t choose any of my films as my favourite. How can I say which one I preferred between my two 2021 releases? Haseen Dillruba and Rashmi Rocket came during the most challenging year of our lives. My only regret is that they were not released in theatres. They were designed for the large screen. We never thought they would not make it into theatres.
Do you regret that?
We would have shot it differently if we knew it was going on OTT. It would have been shot in a slightly different way for OTT. The shots had a theatre feel to them.
As a female hero known to do author-backed roles, is it getting difficult for you to find leading men who are willing to let their co-star take centre stage?
This has been a consistent issue for years. And I’ve made peace with the fact that it will continue to be an issue. Without taking names, there is a prominent leading man who has said no to projects with me arguing the scripts were women-oriented. They have said, ‘This is an out-and-out girl’s film so I don’t want to do it.’ Some talented leading actors have said no to films where I have a larger part than the male lead. I have never shied away from doing smaller parts in a male-driven film. So I don’t know how to explain this lack of sportsmanship other than by blaming the male ego.
Does this gender bias annoy you?
Do they have so little faith in their talent that they feel they won’t get the audiences’ attention and love in a smaller role? I look at the West and I am amazed at how the big male stars do roles in films where the protagonist is a woman. What thought processes make the male actor in the West more open to women-centric films than their counterparts in these parts? I certainly hope this mindset changes soon.
Tell me about your forthcoming films?
I have four films ready, though I don’t know in which order they will release: Loop Lapeta, Shaabaash Mithu, Dobaara, and Blurr. I am halfway through another project Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan. All these should be out in 2022.
You turned producer in 2021...
Yes, with a film called Blurr which just fell into my lap. Ideally, I’d have liked to give my production plans more thought. But like my acting career, my turning producer was also destined to happen. I am enjoying my new role as a producer. Usually, when I am on the set I concentrate on getting my lines right. This time I was trying to make sure everything was okay for everyone on the set. I am not sure that was the right thing to do as an actor. I am looking at other things as a producer where I am not an actor, which I will announce soon.
There is a healthy curiosity about your marriage plans with your boyfriend Mathias Boe?
Just because weddings are the flavour of the season? No no. Not really, I have no immediate wedding plans. I have quite a few assignments on hand. I don’t want to do a rush-rush wedding. Whenever I get married it will happen in a relaxed atmosphere. I am in no hurry to get married. Nothing much will change after marriage so I am not feeling any great need to take the plunge right now.
How do you see your life in 2022?
I hope it is more organized. Because of the lockdown, the last two years have been a little crushed and cluttered for me. I have been running in and out of sets trying to find time for myself and my family. This has taken a toll on my physical and mental health. I am hoping 2022 will be more peaceful. I hope there are no shocking sudden lockdowns in 202. Touchwood

95 रुपए का प्रीमियम अगर एक 25 वर्षीय व्यक्ति 20 साल के लिए 7 लाख रुपये की बीमा राशि के साथ इस पॉलिसी को लेता है, तो उसे प्रति माह 2853 रुपए यानी लगभग 95 रुपये प्रति दिन का प्रीमियम देना होगा। जिसका तिमाही प्रीमियम 8449 रुपए, अर्धवार्षिक प्रीमियम 16715 रुपए और वार्षिक प्रीमियम 32735 रुपए होगा।
कैसे मिलेंगे14 लाख रुपए 95 रुपए के हर दिन के निवेश पर इस पॉलिसी के 8वें, 12वें और 16वें साल में 20 फीसदी की दर से 1.4- 1.4 लाख रुपये का भुगतान किया जाएगा। 20वें साल में 2.8 लाख रुपये सम एश्योर्ड मनी के तौर पर भी मिलेंगे। पूरी पॉलिसी अवधि यानी 20 साल के लिए बोनस की गणना 6.72 लाख रुपए की जाती है। इस तरह अगर 20 वर्षों का कैलकुलेशन करें तो 13.72 लाख रुपए का लाभ होगा। इसमें से 4.2 लाख रुपये एडवांस मनी बैक और 9.52 लाख रुपए एक साथ मैच्योरिटी पर दिए मिलेंगे।
Coronavirus News Live Updates: कोरोना के मामलों में आया उछाल ‘तीसरी लहर’ की आहट दे रहा है, एक तरफ ओमीक्रोन के मामले तेजी से बढ़ रहे हैं तो दूसरी तरह कोरोना संक्रमितों की संख्या भी राज्य दर राज्य बढ़ रही है। भारत ने पिछले 24 घंटों में 13,154 नए COVID19 मामले दर्ज किए हैं।
इस बीच मुंबई में नए साल के जश्न पर रोक लगा दी गई है। पूरे मुंबई में धारा 144 भी लागू कर दी गई है। शहर में नए साल पर किसी भी खुली जगह, रेस्तरां, होटल, बैंक्वेट हॉल, बार्स, क्लब आदि में किसी भी तरह के कार्यक्रम पर मनाही हो गई है। यह गुरुवार से शुरू होकर 7 जनवरी 2022 तक लागू रहेगी।
दिल्ली में 263 और महाराष्ट्र में 252 मामलों के साथ ओमाइक्रोन मामले की संख्या बढ़कर 961 हो गई है। मुंबई में 2,510 मामले दर्ज किए गए हैं जबकि बेंगलुरु में 400, कोलकाता में 540 और चेन्नई में 294 कोरोना के नए मामले सामने आए हैं। इसके अलावा राजस्थान में करीब छह महीने के बाद पहली बार 100 से अधिक नए केस मिले हैं।
बिहार में शराबबंदी कानून के चलते मुकदमों की संख्या में काफी इजाफा हुआ है। ऐसे में नीतीश कुमार के इस फैसले पर सुप्रीम कोर्ट के मुख्य न्यायाधीश ने अपनी चिंता जताई है। CJI एनवी रमना ने इस पर सवाल उठाते हुए इसे एक अदूरदर्शी फैसला बताया है। उन्होंने कहा है कि इस कानून के चलते कोर्ट पर बोझ बढ़ा है।
‘शराब ना मिलने से परेशानी हो तो बिहार ना आएं’: वहीं दूसरी तरफ बिहार के मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार शराबबंदी कानून को लेकर लोगों में जन जागरूकता पैदा करने के लिए अपनी राज्य स्तर पर “समाज सुधार अभियान” यात्रा पर हैं। उन्होंने शराबबंदी का विरोध कर रहे लोगों को आगाह किया है कि जिन लोगों को बिहार में शराब ना मिलने के चलते यहां आने में परेशानी होती है, उन्हें राज्य में आने की जरूरत नहीं है।
जमानत अर्जी की सुनवाई में देरी: शराबबंदी कानून को लेकर सीजेआई एनवी रमना ने 26 दिसंबर रविवार को कहा था कि बिहार में शराबबंदी क़ानून के बाद हालत यह है कि पटना हाइकोर्ट में ज़मानत की याचिका एक-एक साल पर सुनवाई के लिए आती है।
सीजेआई एनवी रमना ने शराबबंदी कानून का मसौदा तैयार करने में दूरदर्शिता की कमी का उदाहरण बताया था। उन्होंने कहा था कि मालूम पड़ता है कि विधायिका, बिलों की सुरक्षा को बढ़ाने के लिए संसद की स्थायी समिति प्रणाली का सही तरीके से उपयोग करने में सक्षम नहीं है।
विजयवाड़ा के कार्यक्रम में ‘भारतीय न्यायपालिका: भविष्य की चुनौतियां’ विषय पर अपने विचार व्यक्त करते हुए सीजेआई ने कहा था कि मुझे उम्मीद है कि इसमें बदलवा होगा क्योंकि इस तरह की जांच से कानून की गुणवत्ता में सुधार होता है।’
बता दें कि राज्य पुलिस के रिकॉर्ड के मुताबिक इस साल अक्टूबर तक बिहार शराबबंदी और उत्पाद शुल्क कानून के तहत 3,48,170 मामले दर्ज किए गए और 4,01,855 गिरफ्तारियां की हुई। इन मामलों से संबंधित लगभग 20,000 जमानत आवेदन पटना उच्च न्यायालय और जिला अदालतों के समक्ष निपटारे के लिए लंबित हैं।
पटना उच्च न्यायालय ने जनवरी 2020 और नवंबर 2021 के बीच शराबबंदी के मामलों में 19,842 जमानत याचिकाओं (अग्रिम और नियमित) का निपटारा किया। इस अवधि के दौरान अदालत द्वारा निपटाई गई कुल 70,673 जमानत याचिकाएं थीं। वहीं नवंबर तक इस कानून के अंतर्गत 6,880 जमानत याचिकाएं अभी भी उच्च न्यायालय के समक्ष लंबित हैं। जिसमें कुल जमानत का आंकड़ा 37,381 है।
बिहार में की 59 जेलों में लगभग 47,000 कैदियों को रखने की क्षमता है। हालांकि, जेल सूत्रों के अनुसार, वर्तमान में इन जेलों में लगभग 70,000 कैदी हैं, जिनमें से लगभग 25,000 के खिलाफ शराब कानून के तहत मामला दर्ज किया गया।
बता दें कि एक तरफ बिहार में अवैध शराब को जब्त करने और इसके आरोपियों पर कार्रवाई की जा रही है तो वहीं दूसरी तरफ इस कानून के चलते लाखों मुक़दमे भी दर्ज किये गये हैं। जिसका दबाव न्यायपालिका पर देखने को मिल जाता हैं।
As a film reviewer, it is the question I have been asked the most. And it is also the toughest question to answer.
Films, at least for me, are very personal experiences. Personally, It is impossible to objectively compare different films with each other, and pick the ‘best’ out of them. It would be like comparing apples with oranges.
2021 has given several memorable cinematic experiences. In a year when we needed solace, reassurance, hope, and an escape the most, cinema did not fail us. So in no particular order, here are some of my most memorable Tamil cinematic experiences in 2021.
In the past few years, Yogi Babu has been omnipresent in Tamil cinema. But only a few films used the actor other than as the comedian. Mandela is an effective satire that is flavourful and engaging. In his debut film, director Madonne Ashwin delivers a smart satire by creating a contained universe, which he uses for social commentary. The film has several great performances, and some peppy, foot-tapping music.
After the unforgettable Pariyerum Perumal, Mari Selvaraj delivers another sucker punch with Karnan. This retelling of the Mahabharata brims with anger, one that scorches anything in its path, like the sun. The film attracted several controversies for its plot, which is loosely inspired from true events. But there is no denying Selvaraj’s visual proficiency. Oh, and how can we forget that cracker of an album from Santhosh Narayanan!
Based on the collective experiences of the Puthirai Vannar community from Tirunelveli, Leena Manimekalai creates a haunting portrayal of inequality with Maadathy. It is a reminder of how refreshing, sensitive, and powerful the female gaze can be. Manimekalai's restraint in documenting sexual violence and her vibrancy in capturing nature in its fluid glory makes this indie film an important watch.

Koozhangal
Another product from Tamil cinema’s growing independent cinema, Koozhangal has been celebrated across the world. PS Vinothraj’s debut feature was India’s official entry for the Oscars, and it has also featured in The New Yorker’s best films list for this year. It is not without reason. In a simple father and son tale, Koozhangal packs a lot of social commentary on familial dysfunction and patriarchy in our lives, documenting small acts of rebellion and their futility. Not to mention, the visual inventiveness in capturing the parched lands of rural Tamil Nadu.
Pa Ranjith’s film with Arya is a rousing tale of an underdog who fights his way to success. Ranjith builds the Madras in the mid-'70s so well, including various details of not just the sport but also the politics prevailing at that point. With Kabilan’s story, Ranjith captures both the personal and the politics, making a strong point about the perishability of success for the vulnerable.
Director TJ Gnanavel’s film with Suriya ticks several boxes. It is progressive, tells an important story, and is well-made. But mostly importantly, it clearly steers away from making its protagonist a saviour. The legal drama documents the fight of a tribal woman for her husband, a victim of custodial violence. With grounded writing, terrific performances, and charming music, it is no surprise that Jai Bhim is one of Tamil cinema’s most celebrated films this year.
Director Vasanth Sai’s anthology is atmospheric and honest in capturing ordinary women. In a period where I was personally tired of anthologies, Sivaranjaniyum Sila Pengalum reminded me of what the format could do. By juxtaposing the lives of three different but normal women, Vasanth gives great insight into non-linearity of women empowerment, and how they fight rebel every day in their homes to claim their space, both private and public. (Also, with great performances in Karnan and Sivaranjaniyum Sila Pengalum, what a year it is for Lakshmipriya Chandramouli!)

Maanadu
One o biggestf the and most exciting trends of 2021 is stars finding a middle ground between concept and commercial cinema. Maanaadu is a fine example of this. Director Venkat Prabhu takes a high concept, and gives it an entertaining twist, making a sci-fi movie that is truly our own. His wit carries the film. Along with SJ Suryah and Simbu’s enjoyable performances, Maanadu was some clean, good fun at the theatres.
There is blood, there is violence, and a whole load of style. Director Arun Matheswaran makes a debut to remember with this revenge drama. Vasanth Ravi and Bharathiraja give commendable performances, playing off of each other’s energy. Rocky never forgets to question the vicious circle of violence, underlining the futility of it all. It is a film that does not want to be angry, but realises that it has no choice. Even though the style is great, it is the sentiment that makes Rocky truly unique.
After Pariyerum Perumal and Gundu, Pa Ranjih’s Neelam backs another unspoken perspective of social justice. Franklin Jacob’s Writer demolishes the starry-eyed perception pop culture has for the police force, and presents a tale that is real, honest, and insightful. From casteism and sexism in the force, Writer also speaks of the deteriorating mental health of officers who are forced to abide and work for an unfair system. It is another debut to remember.

राकांपा प्रमुख शरद पवार ने बुधवार को कहा कि 2019 के महाराष्ट्र चुनाव के बाद भाजपा उनकी पार्टी के साथ गठजोड़ करने के लिए उत्सुक थी, लेकिन वह इस तरह के गठबंधन के पक्ष में नहीं थे और प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी से कहा कि “यह संभव नहीं है।” अपने 81वें जन्मदिन के अवसर पर द इंडियन एक्सप्रेस ग्रुप के मराठी अखबार लोकसत्ता द्वारा प्रकाशित कॉफी टेबल बुक अष्टावधानी के विमोचन के अवसर पर पवार ने कहा: “यह सच है कि हमारे दोनों दलों के बीच गठबंधन के बारे में चर्चा हुई थी। प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि हमें इसके बारे में सोचना चाहिए… हालांकि, मैंने उनसे उनके कार्यालय में ही कहा था कि यह संभव नहीं है और मैं उन्हें अंधेरे में नहीं रखना चाहूंगा।

This is the shame of 2021. A pulp patriotic drama it is shamefully shoddy work, exposing its glaring inadequacies under the garb of nationalistic jingoism. Everybody in the film talks with flag-waving braggadocio, as though competing for the best actor award at the local amateur theatre workshop. So devoid of cinematic quality is this war film, and so oafish are the battle sequences that I wondered if the whole endeavour was planned as a Doordarshan serial on the occasion of Veer Diwas. While purporting to honour our brave soldiers Bhuj insults the entire army by deploying the worst computer graphics for the aerial and ground battle scenes that I’ve ever seen in a war film. While Pakistani soldiers drop bombs erratically on the vulnerable airbase in Bhuj, none can equal the bomb that the film proves to be. Nothing prepares us for the sheer volume of clumsiness and mediocrity that Bhuj so proudly displays.
From the opening airborne attack to the closing runway hijinks, the soggy saga reeks of sham valour. Each frame groans with tons of rabblerousing rhetorics punctuated by sounds of aerial bombs dropping on land as arid as the screenplay of this clumsily punctuated war drama. The director just doesn’t know where to stop. Or for that matter where to begin.
First things first. This Haathi Mere Saathi has nothing to do with Rajesh Khanna’s 1971 blockbuster of the same title. This one has lots of elephants in it but fails to address the elephant in the room: why has this film been made? If I was the producer I would quickly throw the footage into the sea and pretend it never happened. Haathi Mere Saathi has Rana Daggubatti running around with a wild look in his eyes as if he’s just seen the Chinese releasing the Covid virus. He plays some kind of animal conservationist battling to save elephants from evil capitalists. Ananth Mahadevan is a greedy entrepreneur who builds a big wall blocking the elephants from the jungle. Someone should block the elephants from queuing up to see this film. They would feel insulted if being added to injury. And poor Sheeba Chadha! That extraordinary actress is reduced to a prop in a film that is not a film. It’s a torture chamber, sure to but conservationists off conservation for a lifetime.
There is a whole lot of noise and screechy sermons on how human plunderers are destroying the elephants’ natural habitat. But the tone is way too shrill to convey the message. Messages work only when conveyed in a reasonable tone. Haathi Mere Saathi is the sledgehammer of conservationism. The CGs are extremely. Poor Daggubatti monopolizes the footage. The voice that’s dubbed for him in Hindi doesn’t suit him. Ditto, Zoya Hassan running around the jungle trying to save the elephants and trying to save poor Pulkit Samrat who looks lost in the jungle. Anyone would, after running from dawn to dusk. But who will save the audience from this hysterical tripe about the plundering tribe? This film should be referred to the SPCA. The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to the Audience.
So much has changed. But not Salman Khan. He continues to be a one-man vendetta army, this time out to clean Mumbai of drugs and drug peddlers. And there are so many of them! The villains just keep pouring in like unwanted monsoon showers. I tried to keep a count. But after the 17th baddie, I simply gave up. I hoped Radhe’s crime-fighting skills are better than my counting. And I was right! At the end of the 1 hour, 49 film Salman’s cop act had eliminated all the villains, two of them, Gautam Gulati(playing a henchman named Girgit) and Pravesh Rana from Bigg Boss. If post-Covid this is what big-screen entertainment is meant to be, then we are better of watching OTT serials at home. Radhe India’s Most Wanted Bhai is strictly for the Salmaniacs.
It transports Bhai, the plot, and the audience into a never-never land of freewheeling combats where we get an extremely hazy, lazy, crazy view of who’s beating whom to a pulp. All that is for sure in the action scenes is that our hero emerges from each physical conflict looking like he has just finished a bath and a meal with a little bit of the ketchup from the French fries stuck on his cheek and sleeves.
How bad is Bhoot Police? It’s hard to say. This work touches such unscaled peaks of dumbness that one is at a loss for words. Descriptions like, awful and mediocre would just about touch the tip of the tale’s woeful inadequacy. If I say it was unbelievably bad, I’d only be talking about Saif Ali Khan who tries so hard to be funny, it’s scary. I could write a whole thesis on Mr. Khan’s ‘Bihari’ accent, being from Bihar I am yet to hear anyone speak like that. Bhoot Police is filled with such never-before sights and sounds. …Like A Chudail belching profanity like Linda Blair, like Saif trying to mimic Rajkummar Rao in Stree and failing miserably, or Arjun Kapoor puking into a holy earthen pot while Saif holds it for him, or…never mind! This pointless illustration of the horror-comedy that neither horrifies nor amuses can go on all day, and we would still not be able to do justice to the plot holes and storytelling absurdities.
Squad:
It hurts to see young Rinzing Denzongpa’s career being crushed under the undiscriminating wheels of such amateurishness. This is an unpardonably tawdry film. Those behind the making of Squad should be put in front of a firing squad. Those in front of the camera deserve our heartfelt sympathy. No actor, no matter how incompetent, deserves to be so brutally compromised. No film in recent memory has made such woefully inadequate use of a cast in desperate pursuit of some moments, some hope amid the despair that shrouds this cadaverous compendium of the cretinous and the cacophonous. The humourless action film about RAW-like agents rescuing a little girl from Georgia is shot with all the seriousness of a drunken monk trying to trapeze across a tumultuous river. There is no interest in seeing the proceedings plumb new depths every moment. It is like watching a car crash into a wall.
Debutants Rinzing Denzongpa and Malvika Raaj playing squad members have no opportunity to prove anything except that they are in the wrong fun. Seniors Mohan Kapoor and Pooja Batra try to have some fun with their roles as a couple of squabbling squad commanders with a chip on their shoulders. While Ms. Batra takes her role seriously (the spectacles don’t help) Kapoor tears into his part with wolfish delight. He is the only one who knows what he has gotten himself into. Debutant Rinzing Denzongpa’s character Bhim suffers from a serious deprivation of motivation. He is on a mission to rescue a little girl. But he is afraid of children, he says. Why? Because he saw one die during a terror flush-out operation. The relationship that grows, or is meant to grow, between the hero and his vulnerable visitant remains a flickering possibility in this laughably loutish film.
The potentially interesting outdoor locations are squandered away with most of the heated discussion happening indoors. Producer-writer-director Nilesh Sahay owes everyone an explanation of what exactly the purpose of Squad is supposed to be. Is it meant to be a joke? Or perhaps to show future generations how actions films are NOT supposed to be directed?
The biggest suspense for me was not whodunit (so don’t worry, no spoilers ahead). But whydunnit? Why oh why did Ribhu Dasgupta see the need to remake what was a middling thriller with a stand-out central performance by Emily Blunt as a trainwreck of a woman whose judgment we can’t trust. Turns out, director Ribhu Dasgupta’s judgment sucks even worse. No point in this remake relocates the original thriller from New York to London and then proceeds to make some misguided radical changes from the original which I can’t reveal because if I do, Parineeti Chopra will kill me. Having survived this remake I want to live some more. Hopefully, the next Bollywood whodunit will get right and won’t barter the fright for the trite. I sensed something going wrong from the start of this 2-hour ‘whydunnit’ when five minutes into the narrative a Shaadi song showed up. Coy glances, wriggly hips, the works. Emily Blunt must be choking her popcorn. It was a reminder of more indigenous moderations in the original script which was about a woman on the skids drinking herself silly and making a nuisance of herself in other people’s lives.
This poor remake takes itself too seriously with red herrings scattered across the unruly chaotic pandemic plot like confetti in a room filled with a wild party of revelers who wake up the next morning wondering what they did, and to whom. Worse still are the endless explanations… oh Lord, every move is explained in case the audience misses the point. And I still say this is a pointless remake. Parineeti Chopra starts on a shaky note but gets confident eventually. When the dialogues are not cheesy in their originality they are corny translations of the original. A sample: “Do you think tumne ussey hurt kiya hoga?” I understand these are Indians in London. But no one talks like this, anywhere. Parineeti Chopra, God bless her brave soul, ploughs through the incoherent remake trying to keep her sozzled stumbling character on its feet. Another bright (and brave) performance comes from Kirti Kulhari as a cop at Scotland Yard with a turban and a dark secret. Aditi Rao does what she is good at looks pretty. The male characters are all drug dealers, philanderers, killers, and extortionists. Avinash Tiwary as Parineeti’s husband infuses some brio into his inert part. He might as well have saved himself the effort. This remake is DOA.
This one is a downright embarrassment for all concerned, especially Manoj Bajpai and Neena Gupta who have lately been going through a bright patch in their career. Little did they know that they would have to deal with an unforeseen hurdle. Dial 100 is so bland in presentation and the suspense so wan, you wonder if the director slept through its making. Or else, what was Rensil d’Silva thinking while casting Bajpai as a cop at a call centre who receives a distress call from Neena Gupta who is just a voice for more than 20 minutes after the show begins.
Hawa Mahal could have done more justice to Neena. When she finally appears on screen, at Manoj’s wife Sakshi Tanwar’s door Neena is a full-on gun-toting psychopath, with the expressions that one sees on the face of a mother after she finds condoms in her son’s room, out to get revenge from Manoj and his wife. Neena Gupta, the poor soul, struggles with her character trying to understand her motivations. The script doesn’t help her in any way, choosing to get even in the oddest of ways, getting more and more abstruse with every passing moment. A young boy playing Manoj and Sakshi’s son shows up as delinquent selling cocaine (no less) to his friends. Why would a boy from a well-to-do family, a cop’s son to boot, fall into such awful company? The screenplay has no answers. Instead, it makes Manoj grit his teeth and tells the partying boy, ‘Go home right home.’I would tell myself the same if I were watching this film in a theatre.
Luckily for us, the pandemic has reduced the torture level of a movie critic’s life substantially. I still watch the crap. But at least I watch it in the comforts of my own four walls. It’s like your mother holding your hand while you’re getting molar surgery done. The tortuous ordeal is made worse by the director’s persistent attempts to infuse suspense into the proceedings like boosters injected into a corpse.
In one sequence Manoj’s son hides in an abandoned building while an undesirable type is looking for him with a knife. What is Manoj’s son doing in that godforsaken place? More importantly, what is Manoj doing in this comatose melodrama with the production values of a student’s film and the wit and intelligence of a lobotomized ventriloquist? बॉलीवुड एक्टर नसीरुद्दीन शाह का मानना है कि जो लोग मुसलमानों के नरसंहार का आह्वान कर रहे हैं दरअसल में वह देश में गृहयुद्ध का आह्वान कर रहे हैं। समाचार पोर्टल दी वायर को दिए इंटरव्यू में शाह ने सीनियर जर्नलिस्ट करण थापर से बातचीत में कहा कि जो कुछ हो रहा है, उसे देखकर हैरानी हो रही है, शायद उन्हें (धार्मिक नेता) ये भी नहीं पता कि वह किस बारे में बात कर रहे हैं, वह किसका आह्वान कर रहे है, ये एक तरह से गृहयुद्ध जैसा होगा।
उन्होंने कहा कि 20 करोड़ की आबादी को आप इस तरह से खत्म करने की बात नहीं कर सकते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि ये लोग लड़ने के लिए तैयार हैं, क्योंकि हम सभी लोग यहीं के हैं, हमारी पीढ़ियां यहीं रहीं और यहीं मरीं, शाह ने कहा कि जो लोग इस तरह की भड़काउ बयान दे रहे हैं शायद उन्हें अंदाजा नहीं है कि वह किस बारे में बात कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि मुझे यकीन है कि अगर इसके प्रतिशोध में कोई आंदोलन शुरू होता है तो भारी नुकसान हो सकता है।
मुसलमानों को दोयम दर्जे का नागरिक बताए जाने पर नाराज बॉलीवुड एक्टर ने कहा कि ये मुसलमानों में डर फैलाने की कोशिश है लेकिन मुस्लिमों को इसमें नहीं फंसना चाहिए। क्योंकि अगर वह यह मानने लगे कि उन्हें डराने की कोशिश की जा रही है तो वह इसके खिलाफ लड़ेंगे और फिर संकट की स्थिति पैदा हो जाएगी। उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसी स्थिति में हमें अपने घरों, जमीनों और परिवार की रक्षा करने के लिए लड़ना पड़ेगा।
इस मामले पर सरकार को सवालों के घेरे में खड़े करते हुए नसीरुद्दीन शाह ने कहा कि जो कुछ हो रहा है, वह मुसलमानों को असुरक्षित महसूस कराने का ठोस तरीका है। ये बिल्कुल ऊपर से शुरू होता है, जहां से औरंगजेब का जिक्र किया जाता है। उन्होंने कहा कि सत्ता पक्ष के लिए अलगाववाद एक नीति बन गई है।
धर्म संसद के खिलाफ कोई कार्रवाई नहीं होने पर उन्होंने कहा कि मैं एक्साइडेट था ये जानने के लिए कि इन लोगों (नफरत फैलाने वाले भाषण देने वालों) के साथ क्या होगा, सच्चाई ये है कि कुछ नहीं हुआ। शाह ने कहा कि मुझे इस बात से बिल्कुल भी हैरानी नहीं है क्योंकि उस आदमी के खिलाफ भी कोई एक्शन नहीं लिया गया जिसके बेटे ने किसानों को रौंद डाला था।
आपको बताते चलें कि पिछले दिनों धर्म संसद को लेकर सुप्रीम कोर्ट के कई वकीलों ने CJI को चिट्ठी लिखकर नफरत भरे भाषणों पर स्वत: संज्ञान लेने की अपील की थी। इस चिट्ठी में हरिद्वार में धर्म संसद और 17 से 19 दिसंबर के बीच दिल्ली में हुई बैठक का हवाला दिया गया था और नौ लोगों के नाम बताए गए थे, जिनके खिलाफ भड़काऊ भाषणों के वीडियो के आधार पर कार्रवाई करने की अपील की गई थी।
