David Attenborough will recall the defining moments of his life as a naturalist, the devastating changes he has witnessed, and the possible solutions to save Earth. Attenborough will take the audience through the challenges our planet is currently facing.
"The living world is a unique and spectacular marvel. Yet the way we humans live on earth is sending it into a decline. Human beings have overrun the world. We're replacing the wild with the tame. This film is my witness statement and my vision for the future. The story of how we came to make this our greatest mistake and how, if we act now, we can yet put it right," Attenborough says in the trailer.
Hubie Halloween - 7 October
Adam Sandler's Halloween offering will see the actor turn into a Hubie DuBois, a well-intentioned but foolish community volunteer. According to Netflix, the Ben Wheatley directorial is about "a young newlywed arrives at her husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast and finds herself battling the shadow of his first wife Rebecca, whose legacy lives on in the house long after her death."
"It is not, in any sense, a remake of the Hitchcock film, firmly not. Remaking a film is not that interesting to me, but the original source material is. I watched all the adaptations. It’s important to see what’s gone before, but that’s certainly not the focus," Wheatley had recently told Empire.
Over the Moon - 23 October
"Fuelled with determination and passion for science, a bright young girl Fei Fei (Cathy Ang) builds a rocket ship to the moon to prove the existence of a legendary Moon Goddess, Chang'e. Multiplex Association of India encourages govt's decision to reopen cinema halls with 50% capacity from 15 October
The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) on Wednesday "wholeheartedly" welcomed the Union Home Ministry's guidelines, permitting the opening up of cinema halls outside the containment zones from 15 October.
Cinema halls across the country had been shut after a lockdown was imposed from 25 March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier in the day, the ministry said activities permitted from 15 October include cinemas, theatres, and multiplexes that can open with up to 50 percent of their seating capacity, for which the SOP will be issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
In a statement, the MAI said the home ministry's decision was awaited by "millions of movie lovers, employees of the cinema exhibition sector, along with the entire film industry."
"We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for their support and guidance."
"We are committed to ensure a safe, secure and hygienic cinema-going experience for the movie lovers of our country, as always, we would continue to assign top-most priority to the health and well-being of our guests and employees," the association said.

Aishwarya Rajesh, director Virumandi talk about Tamil cinema's first pay-per-view model film, Ka Pae Ranasingam
When Kamal Haasan wanted to release his high-budget Vishwaroopam on DTH a day before its theatrical release in 2013, exhibitors, distributors and theatre owners strongly protested his decision and threatened to boycott the film before he dropped his plan. Now, Aishwarya Rajesh and Vijay Sethupathi's Ka Pae Ranasingam will become the first Tamil film to premiere in the digital platform on a pay-per-view model on Zee Plex and also simultaneously in major DTH platforms for Rs 199.
"To be honest, I really wanted Ka Pae Ranasingam to release in theatres. My mother is a huge fan of theatre experience and I used to accompany her to all movies. But, I also feel that Ka Pae Ranasingam is a good opportunity for us since audiences are mostly confined to their homes during this lockdown time and would like to watch new content. The pricing of Rs 199 was decided by the producer and the Zee team. Although it sounds expensive, the entire family can watch the movie with the same price. It's an entirely new experience for me and I'm waiting to see how audiences receive this," said Aishwarya Rajesh in a group interaction.
Directed by newcomer Virumandi and produced by KJR Studios, best known for bankrolling Nayanthara's Aramm and distributing Ajith's Viswasam, Ka Pae Ranasingam features Vijay Sethupathi in a pivotal role. "When I was shooting in Ramanathapuram, I witnessed the dire effects of water scarcity first-hand and the struggles of the people. My perception of the usage of water changed for good. After I finished shooting and came back to Chennai, I became very cautious about using water. It was a totally different experience. When I heard the script [of Ka Pae Ranasingham], it was quite hard-hitting for me. I realised the value of water conservation," Aishwarya further said about her experience on the film.
Talking about how he landed the opportunity to direct Ka Pae Ranasingam, director Virumandi said, "I have been working in the industry for nearly 20 years. I collaborated with Gopi Nainar in Aramm and also assisted Sarjun KM briefly in Airaa. That's how KJR Studios gave me the opportunity to work on this project. When I narrated the script to Vijay Sethupathi, I was quite nervous. But, he told me that he will suggest someone else for the role. I felt very sad. Later, things materialised and he came on board."
Virumandi said that the story mainly revolves around the struggles of farmers, unemployment, and water scarcity in a village in Tamil Nadu.
"But, the treatment of the screenplay will appeal to commercial audiences as well. There was a real-life character called Ranasingam who lived in the village (near Ramanathapuram) where we shot the film. He struggled for the welfare of the people and died for them. I got inspired by the name and wanted to keep it as the film's title," he stated.
Aishwarya revealed that Ka Pae Ranasingam started as a guest role for Vijay Sethupathi. "But, the character evolved beautifully and now, he's there for nearly one hour of the film's duration. His schedule was chockablock with multiple projects but he graciously allotted more than 20 days for our film. Ka Pae Ranasingam will be a hard-hitting, emotional film."
Heaping praise on Aishwarya Rajesh as a strong performer, Virumandi said, "There were various instances where she used to do multiple takes voluntarily to better the previous performance. She has delivered a stellar performance and I'm sure audiences will feel the same after watching the movie."
Aishwarya Rajesh further added, "Digital platforms have paved the way for more experimental films and interesting storytellers."

The Lion King follow-up to be helmed by Moonlight's Barry Jenkins, announces Disney
The Walt Disney Co will make a follow-up to the 2019 live-action The Lion King with Barry Jenkins, the director of the Oscar-winning Moonlight, and the James Baldwin adaptation If Beale Street Could Talk, set to direct.
Disney announced plans Tuesday for a kind of prequel to last year’s poorly reviewed but highly popular photorealistic remake. The new Lion King grossed more than $1.6 billion worldwide, so a sequel was perhaps always likely. Less expected was a Lion King with Jenkins directing. The film, Disney said, will explore the mythology of The Lion King, including Mufasa’s origin story.
“Helping my sister raise two young boys during the ’90s, I grew up with these characters,” Jenkins said in a statement. “Having the opportunity to work with Disney on expanding this magnificent tale of friendship, love, and legacy while furthering my work chronicling the lives and souls of folk within the African diaspora is a dream come true.”

‘The Lion King’ Sequel Set With ‘Moonlight’ Director Barry Jenkins To Helm For Walt Disney Studios https://t.co/Ev7Obi8Km8 via @Deadline
— Barry Jenkins (@BarryJenkins) September 29, 2020
Jenkins earlier this year completed shooting on the Amazon limited series The Underground Railroad, based on the Colson Whitehead novel. He won an Oscar for the script to the best-picture-winning Moonlight and was nominated for the screenplay to 2018′s If Beale Street Could Talk. He also last year made plans to direct a film based on the life of choreographer Alvin Ailey for Disney’s Searchlight Pictures.
Disney didn’t announce any further plot details or casting on the new Lion King project, which was first reported by Deadline Hollywood. Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the 2019 movie, is returning to pen the follow-up.
Directed by Jon Favreau, The Lion King featured a voice cast including Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Jon Oliver, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, and James Earl Jones. Reviews weren’t good (52 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) but it was more lucrative than any other “live-action” remake of a Disney classic. Unadjusted for inflation, 2019′s Lion King ranks as the seventh highest-grossing film ever.

Helen Reddy, voice behind Delta Dawn, feminist anthem I Am Woman, passes away aged 78
Helen Reddy, who shot to stardom in the 1970s with her rousing feminist anthem I Am Woman and recorded a string of other hits, has died. She was 78.
Reddy’s children Traci and Jordan announced that the actor-singer died Tuesday in Los Angeles.
“She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman,” they said in a statement. “Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.”
Reddy’s 1971 version of 'I Don’t Know How to Love Him' from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar launched a decade-long string of Top 40 hits, three of which reached No 1.
The Australian-born singer enjoyed a prolific career, appearing in Airport 1975 as a singing nun and scoring several hits, including 'Ain’t No Way To Treat a Lady,' 'Delta Dawn,' 'Angie Baby' and 'You and Me Against the World.'
In 1973 she won the best female vocal pop performance Grammy Award for 'I Am Woman' quickly thanking her then-husband and others in her acceptance speech.
“I only have 10 seconds so I would like to thank everyone from Sony Capitol Records, I would like to think Jeff Wald because he makes my success possible and I would like to thank God because she makes everything possible,” Reddy said, hoisting her Grammy in the air and leaving the stage to loud applause. She also performed the song at the ceremony.
'I Am Woman' would become her biggest hit, used in films and television series.
In a 2012 interview with The Associated Press, Reddy cited the gigantic success of 'I Am Woman' as one of the reasons she stepped out of public life.
“That was one of the reasons that I stopped singing, was when I was shown a modern American history high-school textbook, and a whole chapter on feminism and my name and my lyrics (were) in the book,” she told the AP. “And I thought, `Well, I’m part of history now. And how do I top that? I can’t top that.′ So, it was an easy withdrawal.”
Reddy’s death comes less than three weeks after the release of a biopic about her life called I Am Woman.
The film’s director, Unjoo Moon, said the film resulted in a seven-year friendship with Reddy.
“I will forever be grateful to Helen for teaching me so much about being an artist, a woman and a mother,” she said in a statement. “She paved the way for so many and the lyrics that she wrote for ‘I am Woman’ changed my life forever like they have done for so many other people and will continue to do for generations to come. She will always be a part of me and I will miss her enormously.”
A performer since childhood, Reddy was part of a show-business family in Melbourne. She won a contest that brought her to the United States and launched her recording career, although she first had to overcome ideas about her sound.
“In my earlier days in Australia, I was considered to be more of a jazz singer,” she told the AP in 1991. “When I won the contest that brought me to this country, one person said, ‘The judges didn’t feel you could have a recording career because you don’t have a commercial sound.’”
Reddy retired from performing in the 1990s and returned to Australia, getting her degree in clinical hypnotherapy.
She later returned to California, where in the 1970s she had served on a statewide Parks and Recreation Commission, and returned to the stage occasionally.
In 2017 she performed I Am Woman at a Women’s March in Los Angeles, singing alongside actor Jamie Lee Curtis. Curtis said it was the “ honour of my life” to introduce Reddy at the event.

Gabrielle Union, NBC resolve dispute over racism allegations after actress' exit from AGT
Gabrielle Union and NBC said Tuesday that they have settled their differences in their dispute over her firing as a judge on America’s Got Talent, which she said was retaliation for her complaints that the show tolerated racism on the set.
“We’ve reached an amicable resolution,” Union and the network said in a joint statement. “NBC Entertainment appreciates the important concerns raised by Gabrielle Union and remains committed to ensuring an inclusive and supportive working environment where people of all backgrounds are treated with respect."
Both sides declined further comment, and would not give further details.
Union, known for her roles in the films Bring It On and Bad Boys II, appeared on the talent showcase created by Simon Cowell for a season, until she and fellow first-year judge Julianne Hough weren’t asked to return.
Variety reported soon after that Union, who is Black, believed she was fired because she had asked NBC and the show’s producers to respond to an environment that tolerated racist jokes and remarks from judges and producers.
Union gave detailed accounts of the issues in a complaint to the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing that she filed in June, saying she received criticism of her hair from producers that were rooted in racism.
“Union, a Black woman, was singled out due to her physical appearance and discriminated against by NBC due to the fact that her hair did not fit within the white image that NBC apparently sought to convey to the audience,” the complaint stated, adding that a network executive and a show producer “informed Union’s manager that her hair was ‘too wild’ and that it needed to be ‘toned down.’”
NBC said in May that outside investigators brought in by the network and producers found that Union’s allegations had no basis and no bearing on the decision to drop her as a judge.
NBC said the investigation “found an overarching culture of diversity on the show.”

Shekhar Kapur named FTII society president, chairman of governing council
Noted filmmaker Shekhar Kapur was on Tuesday appointed president of the Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society and chairman of the institute's governing council, an official said.
FTII Director Bhupendra Kainthola said Kapur's appointment was announced by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The 74-year-old filmmaker's tenure will be till 3 March, 2023, the official said.
Born on 6 December, 1945 at Lahore in Pakistan, the critically acclaimed director and actor is known for films like Elizabeth (1998), Bandit Queen (1994) and The Four Feathers (2002).
Shekhar Kapur directed the 1983 film Masoom starring Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and Urmila Matondkar.
I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted, "Happy to inform that renowned international film personality Shekhar Kapur has been appointed as the President of FTII Society & Chairman of Governing Council of FTII."
"Kapur, who has vast experience, will add more value to the institute. I am sure everybody will welcome his appointment," he added.
"...the Government of India nominates Shri Shekhar Kapur as President if FTIi Society and Chairman of Governing Council of FTII till 3 March, 2023," said the order of I&B ministry, tweeted by Javadekar.
After Anupam Kher resigned as the chairman of the premier institute in October 2018, BP Singh, producer-director of popular TV serial CID, was named president of FTII Society and Chairman of Governing Council in December 2018.
Meanwhile, the FTII Students' Association (FSA) requested Kapur to take up the issues of fee hike and "curbing of students' voice" in his new role.
Aadhith V Sathvin, President, FSA, said there have been constant attacks on public education institutions in the country with fees hikes and curbing of student voices of dissent and representation.
"We hope Mr Shekhar Kapur, who is a noted filmmaker, with his experience, will carry out the vision of the institution and take it forward.
"We also strongly urge him to take note and also take action on the ongoing fee hike issues and the curbing of students voices in the academic council of FTII, which is an attack on the Constitution of the academic council itself," he said in a statement.

Nishabdam is one of the most intriguing movies that I've been associated with, says R Madhavan
Anushka Shetty and Madhavan's Nishabdham, directed by Hemant Madhukar, marks the reunion of Anushka Shetty and Madhavan fourteen years after their last Tamil outing Rendu, which marked Anushka's debut in Kollywood.
"Anushka was a tall and charming lady back then and was a newcomer without much experience. Now, after fourteen years, she carries the same charm. She has become an experienced actor. Having seen her passionate involvement in shooting activities, I felt really proud. After Baahubali, she has become a huge star but she was very grounded and there's no starry air as such. She's a wonderful lady and it was a great experience to work with her," told Madhavan in a group interaction about reuniting with Anushka in Nishabdham.
Talking about essaying the role of a musician in the film, Maddy said, "I play an international cello artist. So, I had to have the flair of an international artist. Since I wanted to look authentic on-screen, I learned to play the cello for nearly three weeks. Although I couldn't get a single tone right, I knew to act as a cello player."
Nishabdham also marks Madhavan's return to Tamil cinema in a full-fledged role after his 2017 blockbuster Vikram Vedha. Asked about what made him sign on the dotted line, Madhavan said, "Since we shot Rocketry in live sound and across multiple countries, I was waiting for the first edit to come and had a span of three months. Coincidentally, I was staying in the US then and my family was also there with me. Initially, Nishabdham was supposed to be a silent film. So, it became an interesting option for me and it was a convenient set-up too. At the same time, it was a very exciting story and was working with old friends. So, I jumped into it."
Produced by TG Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory in association with Kona Film Corporation, Nishabdham is touted to be a suspense thriller revolving around a speech and hearing impaired artist (played by Anushka), her celebrity-musician husband, and the strange disappearance of her best friend. "I enjoy watching and being a part of thriller films. Nishabdham is definitely one of the most intriguing movies that I have been associated with. Set in the US and shot extensively in Seattle and other parts of the US, the story is relatable to global audiences," Madhavan said earlier in a statement.
Madhavan also revealed that his next Tamil film, Maara, will also premiere on Amazon Prime Video soon. An official remake of Malayalam super-hit Charlier, starring Dulquer Salmaan and Parvathy in the lead roles, Maara features Madhavan alongside Shraddha Srinath and is helmed by Dhilip Kumar. Maara will be the next release of Madhavan before the multi-lingual biopic Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, which is confirmed as a theatrical release.
"I have never even shot a film on iPhone. Now, I have finished my debut directorial, Rocketry. I had to take over the directorial reigns of the film due to unavoidable circumstances. I believe that the film has come out like the way I wanted. But, I have travelled with the subject for nearly four years and researched about Nambi Narayanan and rocket science thoroughly. Since I knew everything about the person, the technicality of making the film was not a problem. I just had to pick the right persons for the jobs and assign my requirements. But, that does not necessarily make me a director. I have never been to a direction school too. So, I don't think I will be a director on OTT soon."
Madhavan also spoke in detail about the kind of transformation he underwent during the lockdown. "I realised in the last seven months that I'm not as noble as I thought. I'm not as determined as I thought and I'm not as creative as I thought I'm. It gives you a jolt. Something like a pandemic makes things real for you. You suddenly realise what's really important and it's constantly changing too. What felt really important to me four months ago sounds irrelevant to me now," he said.
He further added ,"I realise that everybody is under pressure now. So, the least I could do is to make everyone's life easier. I want to do a comedy or maybe I want to make a Bud Spencer-Terrence Hill kind of a film. Or an Indiana Jones kind of a film that makes you enjoy as a family."

NCB denies ill-treating former Dharmatic producer Kshitij Ravi Prasad in custody
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Monday denied ill-treating arrested drugs case accused Kshitij Ravi Prasad, a former Dharmatic Entertainment executive producer, in its custody.
The drug law enforcement agency termed the allegations in this regard as "mischievous and completely untrue".
In a press release, the NCB said it has come across a news item, purportedly quoting Satish Maneshinde, the advocate for Prasad, about the accused being "ill-treated" in its custody.
Prasad was arrested by the NCB on Saturday after questioning in a drugs case linked to Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death.
On Sunday, a city court remanded Prasad, a former executive producer at Dharmatic Entertainment (a sister concern of filmmaker Karan Johar's Dharma Productions), in the NCB's custody till 3 October.
The news item alleged humiliation and mistreatment of Prasad at the hands of NCB officers.
"It is very unambiguously stated here that the news item in circulation is mischievous and completely untrue. The NCB arrested Prasad as some incriminating evidence were recovered from him.
"When the involvement of Prasad in offences under the NDPS Act was revealed, he was placed under arrest after following due process of law. His lawyer and his family (mother) were informed as per procedure," the release said.
He was also allowed to meet his wife and father-in-law at the NCB office in south Mumbai, the central agency said.
"As Prasad was not cooperating with the investigation, this fact was brought to the notice of the court with a request to grant NCB custody on Sunday when he was produced for remand after a medical check-up. He was sent to the NCB custody till 3 October," the release said.
The court has observed in its order on Sunday that no physical ill-treatment has been given to the accused, it said, and quoted from the judge's observation.
"From the submission of the accused, it reveals that, no physical ill-treatment (was) given to him during the course of his custody with the NCB authority. Furthermore, he has no complaint about the physical ill-treatment," the NCB release said, quoting from the court observation.
The NCB reiterates that the allegations circulating in the news item are baseless and devoid of any truth, the release said.
Prasad's name had cropped up during the NCB's wider probe into the alleged Bollywood-drugs nexus.
The probe agency had told the court on Sunday that Prasad, in his statement, said he had procured drugs from co- accused Karamjeet Singh Anand and his associates.

The Google Doodle on 29 September paid its tribute to legendary actress and stage veteran Zohra Segal. The illustration, which shows Segal as dancing, has been illustrated by guest artist Parvati Pillai.
A recipient of Padma Shri in 1998, the Kalidas Samman in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2010, Segal appeared in multiple British films, TV shows, and Hindi movies like Dil Se, Veer-Zaara, Cheeni Kum, Kal Ho Na Ho, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham in a career spanning over six decades. like
Segal was born on 27 April, 1912, in Saharanpur, and began her career as a dancer in choreographer Uday Shankar's troupe in 1935. Till 1943, Segal toured across USA, Japan and Europe, performing with Shankar's group.
In 1945, Segal joined the Indian People’s Theatre Association and made her debut in films with IPTA's first film production, Dharti Ke Lal (1946) directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas, and later in Neecha Nagar, also backed by IPTA. She is an inspiration not just for women everywhere, but for anyone who wants to follow their own path."
Pillai further adds Segal "lived her life to the fullest. In today’s challenging times, it is important to be optimistic and keep smiling.”

Tehran: Moshe Zonder of Fauda fame and EP Dana Eden discuss the Apple TV+ espionage series
Moshe Zonder, best known for political thriller Fauda, once again tries to keep his audience at the edge of their seats with eight-part espionage series Tehran.
Fauda saw an Israeli Defence Force unit infiltrate Palestinian militant group Hamas, and in Tehran, Zonder sends his Iranian born Mossad computer-hacker agent Tamar Rabiyan (Niv Sultan), a novice, on an undercover mission to dismantle Iran's nuclear reactor. The assignment goes awry and Tamar goes rogue, sheltering herself from her superiors desperately on her tail. Every scene is thick with tension, will she or will she not get caught?
Both shows broach the issue of Israel's tensions with its neighbours through the respective journeys of their primary characters. Zonder's experience as an investigative journalist helped bring a broader perspective in illustrating these complex relations. "I loved to cross borders to the West Bank and the Gaza strip where I met with the leader of the Hamas movement, Israel's great enemy. After meeting them and hearing their stories, I realised everything was a lot different than what I knew and what was published in Israeli press. That led me to write the first season of Fauda."
Niv Sultan as Tamar Rabinyan | Apple TV+
Executive producer Dana Eden calls Tehran "a global story about identity, immigrants, family, and loyalty."
When it comes to dealing with geopolitical representations in cinema and TV, one side is often favoured over the other. We have seen it in Hollywood's war/spy dramas and in the ultranationalism of Bollywood films. With Tehran, Zonder says he has attempted to draw parallels between the lives of common, young Israelis and their cross-border peers, researching for which took him and his team over two years. While politics are important, humanity takes precedence in storytelling. "We wanted to show the lives of those young people — protesting and demonstrating against the Ayatollah regime, risking their lives, risking their freedom," says Zonder.
Shaun Toub as Faraz Kamali | Image from Twitter
"One of the most beautiful things about this show is that we have put in a lot of effort to show both sides of the conflict without leading the audience to choose one side over the other. There is no one clear enemy," reiterates Iranian-American actor Shaun Toub, who plays Faras Kamali, head of the Revolutionary Guards, a branch of Iran's armed forces, "As a viewer, your feelings are changing in every episode. You can relate, but also hate both sides."
The show tries to subvert stereotypes of Iran being a restrictive Islamic state with no space for self-expression. We see Tamar seek refuge at her long lost aunt Arezoo's home, and soon befriend a local hacker and student activist Milad (Shervin Alenabi), who introduces her to Iran's underground culture. Arezoo's daughter, on the other hand, represents the conservative side.
The world of espionage and action thrillers is usually dominated by men, so choosing a female protagonist was a political statement for the makers, an important step toward diverse media representation. Besides, writing a female character and designing difficult situations for her to tackle was "more interesting and freeing" for Zonder and co-writer Omri Shenhar.
"The fact that we chose a woman and not only a woman, but an immigrant from Iran, who comes back to her homeland as a spy makes everything more complex and more nuanced," adds executive producer Dana Eden.
Tamar is inexperienced and nervous as an on-field agent, and sentimental upon returning to her place of birth. Though her self-defence training kicks in when she is in peril, she is still susceptible to rookie mistakes, endangering herself and people around her. Selecting the right fit for Tamar involved a fair amount of auditions, until Eden suggested Sultan, whom she had worked with before.
"I want to say about Niv that she has a quality to be tough and soft at the same time. That's what she brought into the character. We didn't want the character to be only tough or only soft and vulnerable – we wanted both. Niv embedded both of those qualities in her acting," says Eden.
For Sultan, preparing for the role involved learning Farsi, mastering the pronunciation and mouth movements, which were completely different from Hebrew and Arabic, the two languages she has been exposed to in Israel. The actor immersed herself in Iranian culture, even refined her physical skills by learning Krav Maga (Israeli martial art). Most dialogues in the show are in Farsi, with fragments of Hebrew and English. Sultan reveals she took over four to five months to learn her lines.
Tehran's cast also includes Navid Neganban (Homeland), Liraz Charhi, Menashe Noy, Shila Vosough Ommi.
Tehran is now streaming on Apple TV+.

Manoj Bajpayee says it's unfortunate how migrant issues have been sidelined by news channels
Actor Manoj Bajpayee says he wanted to channel the nostalgia and pride of migrants for their home in Bambai Main Ka Ba, his hit Bhojpuri rap highlighting the plight of people who leave their native places to move to big cities in search of employment.
Bajpayee, one of the finest contemporary actors in Hindi cinema with films such as Satya, Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 1 and Aligarh to his credit, said it is sad that migrants issues are not highlighted enough by news channels.
The politically-charged song, written by Dr Sagar and directed by Anubhav Sinha, gave Bajpayee the chance to combine the medium of rap with his first language, Bhojpuri, to talk about issues that bother him.
The actor, who hails from Belwa village in West Champaran, Bihar, said he wanted the rap to reflect the pride he has for his birthplace.
"Rap is a great way to protest, to express your anger. I improvised a lot while performing. The most important thing that I tried to bring was that whatever anger you want to show, you also show the pride, the pride of the village I come from," the actor told Press Trust of India in a telephonic interview.
Days after the coronavirus-induced lockdown came into effect in March, lakhs of migrants and daily wagers landed on the highways, walking, cycling or hitchhiking to their home states hundreds of kilometres away as living in cities became impossible due to lack of work.
The images of their long walk home in the face of tragedy and death shook the nation and hit the headlines in the national and international media but their issues have now disappeared from the news, something that the actor finds unfortunate.
"It's sad that migrant issues and their problems have been sidelined by the news media. They should talk about it. There should be discussions and debates so that these things don't happen again.
"Migrants leave their home in search for a better life in the big city but they end up living a pathetic life," Bajpayee said, emphasising the need for job creation in small towns.
The 51-year-old actor said headlines today don't reflect questions related to the growth and the development of the country.
"From 5 o'clock till 10 o'clock, you are reading things and seeing things which are completely not relevant to the country or its growth and development.
"In the name of journalism, what we are seeing is nothing but a mockery of journalism. I hope we start talking about something that's relevant and matters to the common man," he said.
Bajpayee said he added a tinge of nostalgia in his performance that comes from his love for his birthplace, while a lot of it already existed in Dr Sagar's lyrics, which have been composed by Anurag Saikia and translated into English by senior journalist Sankarshan Thakur.
"I am a proud Bihari, village person and farmer's son. I sincerely feel blessed I was born in that place. I am proud of the culture, language and upbringing that I had. I give a lot of credit for my performances to the place I come from.
"It has contributed a lot in making me the actor and the person I am today. The nostalgia does not just come from the lyrics but also from the way I have performed the song," the National Award winner added.
Asked about the lack of good Bhojpuri content in mainstream media, Bajpayee said he always wanted to do something in the language but actors have to depend on other creative people for such collaborations.
"When Anubhav offered this to me, I immediately said yes. This is my mother tongue, my first language. The response to the song has been encouraging. It gives me hope about future projects."
The actor also believes the grammar of the visual medium is gradually changing with people from small towns and from places like Poorvanchal, UP and Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh coming to the industry.
"They come to this industry with their stories and experiences. When they start putting out their stories, people relate to it. And that''s why the local becomes global.
"In the last 20-21 years, the storytelling has changed because of these people who came from their own strong cultural background and they tried putting out their stories and cultural experiences."
Bajpayee, meanwhile, is enjoying one of the most creatively fertile phases of his career with back-to-back projects.
"I am always buzzing with ideas. If I get more challenging stuff, I will throw myself into it because I love this art. This is the first time in my entire career that 365 days of my life are given to people. I don't have any dates left. I am scared of reading more scripts because if I like something and I can't do it, it will give me stress," he said.
Bajpayee, who is now looking forward to the second season of The Family Man, promised a "more intense and thrilling" follow-up chapter to the popular Amazon Prime Video series.
While The Family Man should be ready by December, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhaari, a Zee Studios production, will see the actor in a comedic avatar.

Former Dharmatic Entertainment producer Kshitij Ravi Prasad claims NCB forced him to implicate Karan Johar
Kshitij Ravi Prasad, a former executive producer for Dharmatic Entertainment, who was arrested yesterday, told a Mumbai Court that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) asked him to implicate Karan Johar and others working at Dharma Productions of consuming drugs.
This claim has been denied by Deputy Director General (South West), Mutha Ashok Jain, who said the questioning was conducted in a "professional manner," reports The Indian Express.
The NCB told the court they had seized “roll joint believed to be remains of smoked ganja” from Prasad's house. The agency also said the producer had made bank and cash payments of around Rs 3500 to purchase marijuana between May and July. It said Prasad is indirectly connected with accused Anuj Keshwani, from whom commercial quantity of a contraband was confiscated.
However, Prasad's lawyer Satish Maneshinde said his client, who produced before a magistrate court in Mumbai via video conferencing, had been "harassed and blackmailed" into making a statement. He added that his client's statement was recorded by NCB's Mumbai head Sameer Wankhede, during which "various patently false claims were inserted despite his (Prasad’s) protests."
"The NCB officers apart from Sameer Wankhede were courteous to Kshitij and provided him with a comfortable sleeping arrangement. The next morning when his statement recording resumed, Kshitij was categorically informed by Sameer Wankhede in the presence of several other officers, that since he was associated with Dharma Productions, they would let him off if he implicated Karan Johar and some others, falsely alleging that they consumed drugs. Kshitij refused to comply with this despite the pressure being mounted on him as he did not know any of these people personally and did not wish to falsely implicate anyone," Maneshinde said.
Wakhende called this a routine practice of the accused to make such allegations. NCB's Deputy DG Jain said Prasad's claims were untrue and the agency did not have an intended target than what the investigation reveals.
While seeking Prasad's custody, the NCB referred to Ankush Arneja's statement where he had said to have supplied hashish to Prasad through accused Sanket Patel. Patel, arrested and eventually granted bail, allegedly told the NCB that he delivered hashish to Prasad's house in Andheri on a dozen occasions between May and July this year.
In Prasad's remand application, the NCB stated that it is integral to find out whom Prasad was delivering drugs to in Bollywood. The agency told the court that Prasad was uncooperative and sought his custody till 5 October.
Maneshinde said Prasad told the court he was asked to sit on the floor during the interrogation as Wankhede put a shoe near his face. After spending 48 hours in custody, he said Prasad was "extremely fatigue and shaken". The lawyer sought permission for Prasad to speak to a lawyer or a family member.
Maneshinde further said Wankhede told Prasad that in exchange for a phone call, he should sign a statement prepared by them, which could be retracted later. Wankhede also allegedly told Prasad that if he did not sign the statement, he would not be able to access a lawyer or family. He claimed that Prasad signed the statement under duress.

A laugh here, a sigh there: Remembering SP Balasubrahmanyam's unique musical style
It’s the beginning of a tender, young love and the couple’s hands graze each other. They are dizzy-headed, in a kerakkam, as they’d say in Tamil. Who else but SP Balasubrahmanyam — all of 65 when Vetri Maaran’s Aadukalam (2011) was being made — could make you feel that sizzling chemistry with a voice heavy with love, yet light with playfulness? The music was by a boy he adored, GV Prakash Kumar, whom he first saw as a child in his uncle AR Rahman’s studio, where he would keep running away from the mic instead of singing ‘Chikku Bukku Rayile’.
Prakash is still in awe of how SPB lent his unique charm to ‘Ayyayo Nenju’. It was a song very close to the singer’s heart, because it also featured his son SPB Charan, and went on to win many awards. “That’s his trademark, right, he always manages to introduce a little laughter here and there to add flavour to a song. It’s all him,” recalls Prakash.
This anecdote comes from a time when you can visualise the songs you like by simply YouTubing them. But decades before that, SPB helped you see songs even as you heard them. Remember ‘Siriya Paravai Siragai’ from the 1985 Andha Oru Nimidam, a whole 26 years before Aadukalam? At 4.50 minutes, just when the song is about to conclude, there’s this burst of laughter, before the song moves to a positive note. Kamal Haasan, as always a great song actor, aced that laugh on screen. Did the music director tell him to laugh this way? Did he know this is how the actor would lip sync? How did he know to laugh to a set musical metre?
As kids, my cousin and I could go back and forth, rewinding and fast-forwarding the tape on our National Panasonic 543 so that we could go land at that exact minute. Years later, we saw that smile on Doordarshan during Oliyum Oliyum when they played the song.
In 1997, when satellite television had entered homes, and with it, film songs, most saw first hand what SPB managed with ‘Thanga Thamarai Magale’ from Minsara Kanavu. The song went on to fetch him a National Award too. Director Rajiv Menon remembers the recording. “It was a high-pitch song and SPB was not very happy with his output. We tried reducing the pitch and the song died. Suddenly, he decided he would sing in high pitch and looked up at the ceiling and sang. The paper with lyrics was pasted there, and a suspended mic caught all the action. He’d always tell me I made him scream for his food.”
‘Thanga Thamarai’ had a different kind of kerakkam, distinctly one-sided, and was a mix of love and admiration for a girl who had no clue about the boy’s feelings.
A lot has been written about how SPB had the ability to sound like the top actors of his time, but one could go on and not tire. He sounded like Kamal, drenching songs with love, grief and playfulness, and revelled in his famous disco numbers too. ‘Annatha Aadaraar’ and ‘Unna Nenachu’ are examples of exuberance and a broken heart, both picturised on Kamal and sung by SPB. It almost felt like SPB knew how Kamal would introduce a half-smile somewhere, and he sang its musical equivalent.
For Rajinikanth, Tamil cinema’s angry young man, he sounded appropriately more mature, and gave him probably his best love song in ‘Kaadhalin Deepam Ondru’, from Thambikku Entha Ooru (1984). There’s also a ‘haah’ at the 1.36 mark. The famous Rajini introduction songs need an SPB.
For Karthik, SPB was playful and passionate in turns. In Kizhakku Vaasal (1990), he sang ‘Pachamala Poovu’, where Karthik serenades a goddess-like Revathy with a certain reverence; later, in ‘Paadiparandha kili’, he’s full-throated in grief, his heart broken after he realises the girl he loves is to be married to someone else.
SPB was the voice that nudged Meenakshi Seshadri towards Prabhu’s love in K Balachander’s Duet. His songs for Prabhu were filled with the good-naturedness and wholesomeness that the actor’s characters were known for.
Mohan would not have been ‘Mike’ Mohan but for SPB’s voice. Most remember Mouna Ragam (1986), but there’s also Udhaya Geetham (1985), among a whole lot of other 80s hits, with its chartbusters, one of which also lent SPB the moniker ‘Paadum Nila’. The songs for Mohan defy listing, hit after hit after hit, in so many genres. So many memorable love songs down the ages.
There are also a tiny bouquet of songs where SPB sang for himself on screen, most famously ‘Mannil Indha Kaadhalindri’ in Keladi Kanmani (1990), which rang in 30 years of its release this year.
The singer with a voice that traversed so many emotions was also a great voice actor. Not many know of how much life he lent to Kama Haasan’s Tamil films that were dubbed into Telugu, or vice-versa. Indran Chandran and Sippikul Muthu came alive for Tamil audiences thanks to SPB; he did the same for over 150 films of Kamal, including Dasavatharam, when they travelled from Tamil to Telugu. His voice bond with Kamal was one for the ages, with people often getting confused as to who was speaking.
SPB, the singer, took over every other talent of his, one of which was acting. A film that brought together the actor, the singer and the expression king in one scene is Manadhil Urudhi Vendum (1987). He plays a doctor who has to kick off a smoking habit. He fondly looks at a cigarette, absorbs its scent with intensity and a smile, and then sings a ‘mangalam’, usually sung at the conclusion of a classical Carnatic concert, to signify the end of a relationship. Luckily, for us, he never sang a mangalam for his bond with his listeners.
